FC: Parkview Elementary
Summary of Work Experience | I played educational games with the kids, helped them with reading, how to use the computer, and how to sound out words. I also cut out paper strips that they would use as hats, cleaned up after them, helped them get ready for recess and took down and put up decorations around the kindergarten classes. | I worked with Mrs.Koene's kindergarten class.
 Cutting out shapes
What I have learned | I have learned a lot from volunteering at Parkview. I learned that you don't have to have to spend a ton of money to make a difference. Making a difference is easy, you just need to take some time out of your day to make someone else smile. I learned it's the little things you do that can really make a difference.
Impact on my life | I will volunteer more and find more ways I can help out. It feels good to help out and is a nice thing to do for others.
Improved skills | -Better people skills. -Better with little kids.
Relationships | After this experience I really like little kids more. I know how to act with them and understand them better.
Using what I have learned | I will be able to understand younger kids a lot better. I can get along with little kids and entertain them.
 Making gingerbread houses
Reflections and Time sheets | Something I found difficult this week was helping the kids settle their problems. When I had to explain to them that it was the next person's turn and that they had to share they didn't get it at first. They kept saying "I get another turn that didn't count!" and I had to explain to them, how would you like it if someone kept taking multiple turns and not letting you take a turn? It was a good experience to be able to teach them that sharing is a good thing though and be honest and pass it on when your turn is over.
Monday- I helped the kids with their alphabet and when they had difficulties I encouraged them and gave them hints to help them with their letters. I told the. To keep trying and gave them positive feedback. I used a cheerful voice and said good job and nice try. Tuesday- I helped the kids put away take turns when they were playing a game andwhenghey lost i told them it was ok to lose sometimes and told them Good job and to keep trying or that they'll get it next time. I just really encouraged them and made sure they didn't feel badly about losing. Wedensday- I helped ms.koene put up chairs, sharpen pencils, check backpacks since the kids were in music that day and I was cheerful and friendly with her and we talked about homecoming and discussed the kids alphabet tests. I asked if she needed me to do anything else and did things things without being asked. Thursday- I took the kids to the 4-k room to wait form the teacher and even though they were getting a little frustrated from waiting for their teacher, I tried to keep them preoccupied and told them the teacher would be there soon. I told them to look around the room and asked them questions to keep them busy. It really made the time pass faster.
I would say that I'm doing a great job because I'm polite, on-time and always let her know when I won't be there. I do things without being told and am always smiling and cooperative with the kids. I have a positive attitude and get along great with the kids. Monday 2:10-2:40 - I helped the kids with their letters and gave them hints on how to do their letters and sang with them to help them remember their ABC's. Tuesday 2:05-2:35 - I helped the kids color and cut out their drawings. I helped them clean up at the end and put away everything. At the end I checked backpacks and made sure everyone's backpacks were neatly put away and they all had jackets. Wed - Absent Thursday 2:10-2:40 I went into the library and helped the kids paint and open up leaf pictures on Kid Pix. They had a lot of fun using the paint bucket tool and coloring their fall leaves different colors. Friday - N/A
The only thing I don't like is that sometimes when I have to go there, my kids are at recess or in gym or music class and I don't get to work with them. Otherwise I enjoy spending my time with the kids and playing with them. | Monday 2:10-2:40 - I helped the kids with their letters and gave them hints on how to do their letters and sang with them to help them remember their ABC's. And if they are getting frustrated or not focusing with you and the activity you are doing, there is always a way to make it interesting. Make the math problems your doing enjoyable and fun.

I would tell them number one to not have a pet, they need to be able to take care of themselves first before they can take care of another animal. To buy cheaper foods like hot dogs and raman noodles and maybe if walking to work once in a while to save money. I think those are 3 very important things that could definitely help someone who was in a financial bind.
