1: When Creative Adoption asked us to write a letter to you, our first thought was: How do you write a letter like this? How can you put into words what a gift it would be to finally become parents after so much heartache of trying? How can you describe in one simple letter how much it would mean to you to finally be called Mom and Dad? They are words that will be hard to formulate, but words we will do our best to put down on paper. Ou | When Creative Adoptions asked us to write a letter to you, our first thought was: How do you write a letter like this? How can you put into words what a gift it would be to finally become parents after the heartache of so much trying? How can you describe in one simple letter how much it would mean to you to finally be called Mom and Dad? They are words that will be hard to formulate, but words we will do our best to put down on paper. Our love story is one that is very precious to us. We met on our school bus when we were 12 years old. We grew up in the same neighborhood in Mobile, Alabama, and have so many wonderful childhood memories together. After high school we each went our own separate ways for many years, always keeping in touch with each other and staying friends. Then, over 6 years ago, we reconnected at a high school reunion, and well, the rest is history. We have not been apart since that moment. Growing up everyone has a picture they envision for their future. For us, we always knew we wanted children. We wanted to enjoy our time together first, but we always hoped that children would be in our future. Then four years ago we started “trying” to have a baby, which led us to the awful news that we had a 2% chance of having a baby naturally. It was devastating, but we kept moving forward with infertility treatments. Those lead to 3 heartbreaking miscarriages. It is difficult to describe how hard those were on us. To be lifted up so high by the news that you would become parents and then be crushed by the news that those hopes were now gone is something that we would never wish on anyone. Before we ever knew that we would not be able to conceive on our own, adoption was always something we talked about. With our journey of infertility we finally opened our hearts and said: What is meant to be will show itself. Then the last miscarriage happened. When we finally got the news from the doctor, we sat down to talk about what we truly wanted for our family. We had to figure out what was important, biology or parenting? We chose parenting. At that very moment there was a smile between us, and we knew it was the right decision. We just wanted the joy of being parents plain and simple. That is when we called Creative Adoptions. When we started the process, we looked at each other and said, “This is how it was meant to be all along. “ We can't explain it except to say that it just felt right. Ever since that day we have not looked back. Choosing open adoption was one of the best decisions we have ever made. This is where we are supposed to be. We are already dreaming of the day when we meet this child and what that will be like. We hear songs on the radio, and it puts a note in our head, “play these for the baby.” We go to a Broncos or Rockies game and we see other parents with their babies and think, “We can't wait until that is us.” We want to show this child the world and let them know that anything is possible for them. Our love for this child already is the center of our world and we cannot wait to meet them and show them that love, unconditionally. We can't wait to teach them about all the love that was with them before they were even born. Our love for them and for you, too. Our love and gratitude for you is also something we talk about even though we have yet to meet you. Through your journey, you not only will be giving this baby a new life, you also will be giving us one too. With one single, selfless act you will be changing lives. That is remarkable and we could not respect you more. We look forward to working with you to create a family that is centered on honesty and love. We do not want to keep anything from this child and plan on being open and honest. That includes keeping you in their life. You are a part of their story and we do not want to take that away from you or this baby. As you go through this process we hope you find peace with the parents you choose through open adoption. We hope that it is us, but regardless, if you are reading this, we hope you find the perfect adoptive parents for your precious baby. Something that has resonated with us from the beginning is the phrase “leap of faith” because that is really what this is. We will all be taking a leap of faith together. Knowing that if we have honesty, love and trust we will create an amazing life for this child. Things can fall apart, or threaten to, for many reasons, and then there's got to be a leap of faith. Ultimately, when you're at the edge, you have to go forward or backward; if you go forward, you have to jump together. -Yo-Yo Ma We want to jump together. Much Love, Dwayne & Jennifer
