FC: Perspectives Unit Visual Project Wendy Qiu Block 1-1 | What is the line between juvenile and adult court? How is Juvenile Justice viewed today?
The next visuals represent the general public's view on juvenile justice. This visual representation should be viewed after reading the comparison, in order to understand it more deeply.
The two images represent the two perspectives on the issue: how/when is a young adult considered a juvenile, and an adult criminal. The white background side represents the public's view, on the other side black represents the juvenile’s point of view. The teeter totter on the top of both trees shows how opinions are weighed and how they are ranked. | In both images, two swirly trees sit in the middle of the two pages. These trees are split into two halves, one white, one black. One the adult court side, leaf buds are shown, on the other side, fully matured leaves are shown.
The first image composes of a dark teddy bear and a light teddy bear, both are worn out, used, and abused. These teddy bears represent underage criminals. This image shows the importance of age when judging a criminal. The teddy bear also shows the problematic lives of these teddy bears, they were abused, so were juveniles/criminals. | The second image show two Christmas humbugs on one side, and an evil villain on the other side. This time the adult court weighs more than the juvenile side. The reason why is because of the assumptions the public makes on the young offenders.
Pages 10-11 show two bees, one a queen and one a worker(gathering)bee. The top of the the tree shows some pollen, these pages represents one of the most important criteria the judges use to convict offenders; the level of maturity, and sophitstication. The queen bee who's only job is to lay eggs, know next to nothing on where to find pollen let alone which type is the best. While the worker who's job is to go out and collect honey/pollen know exactly what he's doing. This metaphor represents how the offenders who are sent into juvenile court are the ones who usually don't understand the crimes they commited.
