Yellow/Grey Themed Sprinkle Party! We did not know the sex of the baby
I had been experiencing contractions off and on for about 2 weeks. They would come 20 min apart for 3 hours and then nothing for a day or two. No "real labor" seemed to be happening. Due to crazy blizzards the week before Christmas, my 38 week appointment was canceled and my 39 week appointment was delayed. I finally went in to see my Doc on Wednesday, Dec. 28 (2 days before my due date) in the morning. I had been having dull back pain for 2 days and some contractions off and on. My doc checked me and said I was between 4 and 5 cm dilated and 80% effaced! I was shocked! I tried not to get excited because when I was pregnant with Jenna, I was 3 cm and 50% effaced for 3 weeks and still had to be induced. My doctor told me, "I bet you'll have this baby very soon." She stripped my membranes and sent me home. My mom took me grocery shopping and hoped that would "get things going." I was crampy but no contractions. After lunch I noticed I was getting more consistent contractions. They were about 15-20 min apart. I felt them more in my back than belly. They were annoying but not painful. Jeremy ended up coming home from work early that afternoon because he had the stomach flu. He went straight to bed. I didn't want to focus on my contractions too much in case they were "false labor" again. I kept myself occupied with a sewing project and decided to go to Breastfeeding Chat Group at 4pm. I told my mom, aunt, and mother-in-law to stay posted in case these labor contractions ended up being the real deal. While Jenna and I were at the chat group I noticed my contractions were closer together - maybe 7 min apart. They started getting stronger. We left around 5 pm for home. I told Jeremy (who was still sick in bed) to call his mom to come get Jenna for the night in case we ended up going to the hospital. My mother in law came around 6:15 for Jenna. My contractions had really picked up in intensity by that point. I had to stop what I was doing and focus on breathing and my eyes were starting to water. I figured this was a good time to go to the hospital. I gave Jeremy two tylenol and told him to get ready to go. He was still feeling awful so he jumped in the shower to try and perk up. It felt like he took the longest shower ever. I was starting to cry during my contractions and they were coming 2 or 3 minutes apart. I started yelling at Jeremy to hurry and get out of the shower. We drove to the hospital (thankfully only 1 minute away) and checked in at the ER by 6:45 pm. They sent me back to L&D. My mom and aunt met us there. They got me in a gown, got the fetal monitors hooked up, and checked me. I was 7 cm and 90% effaced. I immediately asked for an epidural. The nurses told me that in order to get an epidural they needed to start an IV and give me a whole bag of fluid prior. | Little did I know, it takes more than hour to get a bag of fluid in...and all the nurses were thinking in the back of their minds that I wouldn't have time for one... By this time I was in some serious pain. I was having a hard time making it through my contractions. They felt like they were coming so fast - about 1 - 2 minutes apart. My aunt kept coaching me through them, helping me breathe and rubbing my back. They started my IV as quick as possible. I got on my hands and knees and leaned over the head of the bed. This position was the only position I could make it through my contractions. I kept looking at my IV bag, which was not draining fast enough, and asking if I could get my epidural. No one would really give me an answer. My doc came in and asked if I wanted any IV drugs to take the edge off. I immediately said yes. They gave me phentenol (not sure if that's spelled right). The drugs definitely helped with the pain and made the contractions just a little more bearable. However, the relief only seemed to last about 15 minutes. Then I noticed a lot of pressure. I told them so they immediately checked me. The nurse said it felt like I was almost complete. I panicked...I cried for my epidural. All of a sudden nurses started coming in bringing the delivery stuff and the doctor came in right as the anesthesiologist came in. The nurses were telling the doc I was almost complete and there was no time for the epidural. My doc asked to check me. Sure enough, I was ready to push and would be doing so WITHOUT the epidural. I started crying even harder...wondering how I was going to do it. Everyone started pepping me up telling me I could do it. Jeremy (who was still feeling awful) came to the bedside to help me through the pushing. They started coaching me through it. It was the most pain I have ever felt...I was afraid to push so I was resisting it at first. After giving some good pushes I realized it was the only path to relief. I pushed for about 15 minutes and then our angel came out! She had the cord wrapped around her, so she was a little blue, but was in good shape. She got to stay on my chest for the first 2 hours after birth. She had her eyes open looking around the whole time. She was 7 lbs 10 ounces and 20 inches. She has hair, but not nearly as much as Jenna did. So I ended up delivering my second beautiful daughter, Natalie Suzanne, a mere hour and some change after arriving at the hospital. I wasn't planning on doing it without the epidural, but I must say I am happy it ended up that way. | Natalie's Birth Story
Born on Dec. 28 | 7 lbs 10 oz, 21 inches long Born at 8:07 pm Cibola General Hospital
 Natalie Suzanne Chavez
Natalie's First Bath at Home | Big Sister Jenna is Helper
Weight: 10 lbs 12 oz Height: 21 in Sizes: Size 1 diapers, 0-3 mo clothes Routine: Natalie sleeps majority of the time. She usually wakes up around 6 am and stays up for 30 min to 1 hr stretches, then she naps all day with awake times in between. She requires a lot of help to fall asleep. I have to swaddle, use the pacifier, shush her and rock her or walk around. Sometimes she'll fall asleep while nursing and other times I have to go through the whole routine. She's going through a little colicky/gassy phase where she gets really cranky around bedtime. Natalie sleeps in bed with us and usually only wakes up to nurse 2 or 3 times per night. Likes/Dislikes: Natalie likes her mobile, lights, her big sister, and taking warm showers. She does not like being cold AT ALL! Nor does she like being tired. Milestones: Attended first B-Day party, first trip to Albuquerque, first smiles between 3-4 weeks, holds head up for a few seconds at a time. | ONe Month Old
Every baby needs a lap. Henry Robin
Weight: 12 lbs 5 oz Height: 23.5 inches Sizes: Size 1 diapers, 0-3 mo clothes Routine: We've had a bit of a rough month. Right around 4 weeks old Miss Natalie started becoming a fussy and colicky baby during the day and up until bedtime. It's definitely taken a toll on me. I've tried everything. It's very challenging to have a colicky baby...as a mother you just feel so helpless and guilty for not being able to soothe your baby. Aside from being a grouchy bear during the day, Natalie sleeps great during the night, only waking once or twice to nurse. She usually sleeps until 7 am! The swing has been a godsend and she usually naps in it during the day. Natalie's nickname has become "Nattie" given to her by her big sis. Likes/Dislikes: Natalie likes being held upright to look around. She loves being talked to and enjoys her swing. She does not like putting on lotion or car rides! Milestones: First time mom & dad left Natalie w/ Grandparents. Holds her head up for several seconds at a time. First shots:-( First professional photos w/ Sister. | Two Months Old
 3 Months Old
Weight: 13 lbs Height: 24-ish inches...not too sure! Sizes: Size 2 diapers, 3-6 mo clothes Routine: This month seems to be getting better as far as the colic goes. Natalie has been going to bed without a fight as long as we go lay down in our quiet, dark room by 8-ish. She gets overstimulated very easily and wont sleep when we are out and about. She started having much more awake time this month. She is napping pretty good, but seems to only like sleeping on her belly. I know it's a no-no, but I keep a close eye. Natalie is a very strong baby! She already loves standing and sitting up. If you have her propped up on a pillow she uses her baby ab muscles to sit up, but she has no balance and not enough strength yet, so she'll topple over! So much for laying on the couch unattended! I was worried about her little tummy since she seemed so colicky and was gassy/constipated. She *seems* to be growing out of that...(knock on wood)...She's been pooping more regularly, spitting up less, less gassy, etc. I hope that phase is over :-) Likes/Dislikes: She loves being talked to, sleeping on her belly, sitting up and standing. She HATES riding in the car...like hates it with the fire of a thousand suns. Milestones: First laugh, first road trip (to AZ), met her Grandparents (my dad & stepmom) for the first time and met cousins Brooklyn & Gabe.
Weight: 14.3 lbs (50th% for weight) Height: 25.5 inches (90th%tile for height!) Sizes: Size 2 diapers, 6 mo clothes Routine: Nattie Boo pretty much sleeps through the night only waking once or twice to nurse, but is still pretty much asleep (I am so lucky, I know!). She typically naps pretty good during the day doing 30 min- 1 hr naps here and there and a long 2 hr nap in the afternoons. I took her to a new Doc who wanted me to try a no dairy diet again to see if that is what upsets her tummy. She said do no dairy for 4 days and on the 5th day eat a bunch of dairy. If she was fussy/gassy then she has a cows milk protein allergy. I did as recommended and about 12 hours after eating ice cream and cereal she was super gassy...so looks like no dairy for us! She also prescribed an antacid for reflux. Likes/Dislikes: She has started playing with toys more. She absolutely loves Jenna. They have started entertaining each other. Milestones: She rolled over from belly to back once a couple weeks ago. She was crying and furious that I had her on her belly and wasn't paying attention to her....then I went to pick her up and she was on her back! She hasn't done it again though! | 4 Months Old
Babies are such a nice way to start people. Don Herold
5 Months Old | Weight: 15 lbs Height: 26-ish inches Sizes: Size 3 diapers, 6/9 mo clothes Routine: Nattie Boo is still sleeping so good at night. Her naps have gotten shorter and more unpredictable, but she's still a pretty good napper, especially on her belly. I am still doing the no-dairy diet which seems to have helped her belly a lot. Likes/Dislikes: She likes people a lot. She "talks" a lot and when she is mad she yells and yells until you make her happy! She also loves the bouncer and being carried around in the baby sling. Loves squealing and laughing. Loves being tickled. Milestones: I started letting Nattie taste food a little after she turned 4 months. She LOVES food and now I have to feed her at least 4 or 5 times a day! She's not picky either...she loves it all. Except rice cereal so we skipped it. I've been making most of her food myself. She eats sweet potatoes, applesauce, blueberries, bananas, beef, avocado and carrots. First trip to Las Cruces to visit Uncle Francis during graduation. She also went on her first camping trip and LOVED the outdoors. She's had lots of teething signs but no teeth yet (thankfully)! Natalie was baptized on May 6. Aside from the fact that she slept during mass and screamed during the baptism, it was a really beautiful day for our family. She is not the most active of babies. I am extremely thankful for that though....I have enough stress chasing the toddler without having to worry bout Natalie yet! She can roll a bit and scoot/rotate, but she doesn't move too much yet!

She drinks through a straw. She mimics sounds people make. She's starting to try to wave and do patty cakes.

 Jenna's 2nd Birthday Party
Nattie is 8 Months Old Weight: 17 lbs still Height: 26.5 inches Sizes: Size 3 diapers, 9/12 mo clothes Routine: We are trying a new cry-it-out technique in Jenna's crib for her naps (don't judge me!). Seems to be working well so far. As soon as she slows down on the night-time nursing her little booty is going in a crib for bedtime as well. Likes/Dislikes: She likes dogs. She seems to like guys more than gals. She flirts. She likes camping. I'm starting to see a tom-boy trend here...She dislikes being ignored for more than 1 minute. She also dislikes dipping her piggies in the lake/pool/or any other colder-than-hot tub temperature water! Milestones: On her 8 month birthday she crawled about two steps...and so the madness begins! Started talking this month - she says "Mom" with purpose, says "Dad" and even tries to mimic other words. | 9 Months Old
