FC: A baby is something you carry inside | you for nine months, in your arms | for three years and in your heart till | the day you die." ~ Mary Mason | Rylin Jean Gerten | November 4, 2009
About Our Family | Mommy and Daddy got married October 27, 2007. Mommy worked at Lima Senior High School and Daddy worked at Findlay Machine and Tool. We lived at 7936 Road 7 Leipsic, Ohio with our dog Trigger and cat Styx.
How We Found Out | Daddy was up helping his friend, Kevin, put a new roof on his house and mommy was at home by herself. She missed her period and thought it would be a good time to take a test. She took one and it was Positive!! She was so excited and nervous she started doing laps around the house!! She put the pregnancy test in a jewelry box and put that inside a sock. When daddy got home she gave the sock to Trigger and he gave it to daddy. Mommy and Daddy were sooo excited!!!
How We Told Our Family & Friends | Grandma & Grandpa Higbie- We put a note inside grandma & grandpa picture frames that said baby arriving in November (At that time we thought that is when we were due!) Grandma & Grandpa Gerten- We wrote them a save the date invitation for some time in November. Great Grandma Meyerhoffer & Family- Great Aunt Jane wanted to use some picture frames mom had so we put the ultrasound picture inside the first frame and gave them to Jane when we had a family get together at Great Grandma's. Great Grandma Arlene & Great Grandma Alice- We called and told them over the phone. Great Grandma & Grandpa Kuhlmn- We had them put a puzzle together that said "The seed has been planted baby coming in November" Grandpa always asked daddy when he was going to plant the seed! All of Daddies brothers and sisters were there when they put the puzzle together.

Overall I had a very easy pregnancy. Around 20 weeks I began to swell in my feet and ankles and it only got worse each day!! By the end of my pregnancy I went up 2 sizes in shoes and could not wear my wedding ring anymore. Throughout the entire pregnancy I gained 48 lbs, 20 of these pounds were gained in the last 2 weeks. The day before my water broke the doctor took me off work to get tests done because I was gaining so much weight in such little time, 11lbs in 1 week......ugh, and had high blood pressure! Little did we know the big day was right around the corner!! | 35 weeks | 35 weeks | 27 weeks

Progress | I got in the shower and Grandma Pat came over to stay with me while dad drove home from Findlay. I had no contractions so we stayed home and cleaned, did laundry and made out some bills. We also had to pack our bags because we were NOT ready!! Around 8:30am contractions picked up and we headed off to the hospital.. When we arrived at the hospital I was already 5cm. Delivery went very smooth from there, I made it to 8cm before I got an epidural. After pushing for about a hour Dr. Stallkamp came in because you were getting close and noticed you were facing up instead of down He had to use the vacuum to turn you and after that you were out in no time! | Rylin- At 5:45 am onWednesday, November 4th my water broke while I was sleeping. I called dad who was already at work and told him the news. He thought I was lying at first because it was a month ahead of schedule! | The Story of your...

Progress | Special Care Nursery | Shortly after you were born the nurses noticed that you were having some difficulty breathing. After they took us down to our room the nurses took you back to the Special Care Nursery so they could look at what was going on. Your lungs were not expanding enough for your body to get all of the oxygen it needed so they had to put you on a C-Pap, which is forced air, and placed you in an isolette. Your heart rate and oxygen levels continued to fluctuate so you were also placed on many monitors. You remained in the isolette on the C-Pap for the next three days under close monitoring. The first time they tried to lower the oxygen levels on the C-Pap you did not do very well so they raised it back up. They tried again the next day and you were successful! After you were off the C-Pap you remained in the isolette and started to maintain your own body temperature. They continued monitoring your heart rate and your oxygen levels, which were still unstable.
Coming Home Soon | Once the levels got better you were moved to a crib and mom and dad could hold you whenever they waned!! You were still hooked up to monitors but you were doing everything on your own!! Mom and dad were able to take you into an empty delivery room where we watched our first college football game, Ohio State vs Penn State!!! (Ohio State Won...woohoo!) Before you were allowed to come home you had to pass a 2hr car seat test but you did that with no trouble!! | First Family Photo!
 Daddy's first diaper change!!
Bringing Home Baby | After several long days we finally got to bring you home!! It was not until late at night that we were able to leave the hospital! On the way home we had to turn around because there was a stopped train on the tracks. It felt like we would never make it home!! There to greet us at the door was Trigger!
