8: Progress | Ambree's Birth Story | Amy started feeling contractions at 4 p.m. on Friday, July 29th. At first we thought it was only Braxton Hicks contractions because our delivery date was still 2 weeks away. Josh started timing the contractions anyways and soon they were 5 minutes apart. After calling the nurse, Amy felt that her water was starting to slowly break so we went to the hospital. We had to wait in the triage center until a nurse was available to help us. During this time, Amy paced the waiting room enduring difficult contractions in front of the other people in the room. When her water broke in the waiting room, we called for the nurse and they got us into a room to be checked out. Ihe nurse told us that Amy was 3 cm dilated and completely effaced. Amy asked to have an epidural as soon as possible.
9: We were taken to the labor and delivery room and Amy was given an epidural around 8:30 pm. After the epidural, Amy did not feel any pain and she was able to talk and anticipate meeting our little girl. Amy dilated pretty quickly to 5 cm and then 9 cm by around 12 midnight. She fell asleep and they woke her up around 2:20 a.m. to tell us that it was time to push. Amy pushed for an hour and a half until Ambree was born. Ambree came out with a full head of dark hair at 4:02 a.m. We were so excited to see what Ambree looked like. We studied her features and tried to figure out who she had gotten her different features from. It was a surreal feeling and we could hardly believe that this was the same little girl Amy had been carrying around for 9 months.
