1: This Cookbook is inspired by all of the talented cooks in the family.
2: Great Grandma Hazel | Elephant Ears!! | 1 pkg. dry yeast -- 1/4 c. lukewarm water -- softened 2 C. sifted flour -- 1 1/2 Tb. sugar - 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 C. margarine -- 1/2 C. milk, scalded & cooled 1 egg yolk 2 Tb. soft butter -- 2 C. sugar - 3 tsp. cinnamon & 1/2 C. chopped nuts. Mix flour, sugar & salt, cut in margarine. Combine milk, yolk, softened yeast; add to flour mix & mix well Chill for 2 hours. Turn out on floured board & punch down & knead. . Cover w/ cloth & let rest 10 mins. | Hazel
3: YUM!! | Roll into rectangle 10 x 8. Spread w/ soft butter. Sprinkle w/ half of sugar & cinnamon mixture & nuts. Roll dough up & seal it. Cut into 3/4" slices. Drop each slice into remainder of sugar, cin. & roll into 5" circle using wax paper on both sides. Lift with spatula & place on greased cookie sheet.. Bake 8 - 12 mins. at 400 degrees.
4: Hi Jon | Jane Grogan | Choc Chip Date Cake | 1 1/4 C. boiling water pour over 1 c. chopped dates 1 tsp. soda ) 3/4 c. oil )Add 2 eggs, 1/2 tsp. salt )then cooled 1 c.sugar )dates & 2 c. 1 Tb. cocoa )flour. | Grease 9 x 13 pan & pour in. Sprinkle this over the top: 1/4 c. sugar 6 oz. pkg. choc chips 1/2 c. chopped nuts Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
5: Wild Rice Soup 1 c. wild rice (soaked in 4 c. water overnight) Then cook 30 mins. with 1/2 tsp. salt Drain - save 1 1/2 c. of stock 1 med. onion - 1 rib celery - 1 carrot, chopped - saute in 1/2 c. butter. Then add 1/2 c. flour, mix for thickening. Whisk in 2 cups chicken broth & stock Add 2 1/2 c. cream and 1/2 # Velvetta and 3/4 c. diced ham & the rice. Simmer for 30 mins. ENJOY!
6: Individual Ham Loaves | 2# ground ham & 1# ground beef 5 cups cornflakes,then crushed 2 1/2 cups milk 3 eggs 1 tsp. dry mustard Mix regular can crushed pineapple w/about 1/2 c, brown sugar. Put 1/2 in bottom of baking pan. Measure ham mix. out in 3/4 c. measure for ind. loaves & place on pineapple mixture. pour other half over loaves. Should make 10. 7: CHOP SOUPY | 1# round steak cut in thin strips 2 Tb. salad oil 1 1/2 c. sliced mushrooms 1 1/2 c. sliced celery 1 c. gr. pepper cut in 1" squares 1/2 c. green onion cut in 1" pieces 1 can Beef Broth 1 can Chinese Vegetables 2 Tb. soy sauce 2 Tb. cornstarch & 1/2 c. water Cooked rice Brown beef in oil, add veg, soup, s.s. Cover & cook over low heat 3 mins. Blend cornstarch & water & stir in. Cook stirring until thickens. Serve with rice or noodles. 4 servings
8: BUTTERMILK PANCAKES | Sift together: 1 C. Flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1 Tb. sugar, 1/2 tsp. soda, 1/2 tsp. salt Add: 1 C. buttermilk, 1 egg, and 1 Tb. oil. Beat all together. Can add fresh blueberries, if desired. Makes 10 - 12 cakes | Jon will like these Tylene

10: Oatmeal Ginger Craisin Cookies | 1 cup Crisco 2 eggs 3/4 cup br. sugar 3/4 cup white sugar 2 tsp. hot water 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda 3 pieces minced ginger 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 2 cups flour 2 cups oatmeal 1/2 tsp. salt 1 cup craisins Mix all together and bake at 350 for 15 mins. Carli
11: Poppy Seed Cake 2 Tb. poppy seed 1 pkg. yellow cake mix 1 lg. pkg. instant vanilla pudding mix 5 eggs -- 1 c. orange juice 1/2 c. oil Mix well, grease & sugar bundt pan, or 9 x 13 pan. Bake at 350 for 45 mins. until toothpick is clean. Sue Blankenship
12: Frozen Cranberry Salad Large can of crushed pineapple,drained 1 # ground fresh cranberries 1 # mini marshmallows 1 1/2 cups sugar Combine and let stand overnight Walnuts are optional Next morning add 1 pint whipping cream (whipped) Mix up and put in freezer in a 9 x 13 pan.
13: CAESAR SALAD FOR 4 | Put large piece of garlic in salad bowl. (Press it in a garlic press). Add 1 Tb. seasoned salt and some ground pepper. Add 1 tsp. of anchovy paste and mash with the garlic mixture. Add 2 Tb. wine vinegar, 5 Tb. oil, 2 coddled eggs. Beat with fork. Fill the bowl with broken up Romaine lettuce and top with homemade croutons and a sauce dish full of parmesan cheese plus a little more salt. Toss lightly and serve immediately. If you let it sit very long it gets too soggy. You can do everything up to putting in the lettuce an hour or two before. Hope you enjoy it. It's my favorite! Barbara Conway
14: BIRTHDAY CAKE by Mrs. George Hastings for Frannie's 17th birthday! 1/2 c. butter ) 1 2/3 c. sugar ) cream together 2 1/2 c. flour, sifted 2 rounded tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 c. milk, fill cup to brim w/ water Beat dry ingredients into butter & sugar, add milk. Beat whites of 5 eggs. Fold into mixture w/ 1 tsp. vanilla Put 1/3 mixture into each of 2 round cake pans. Color remaining 1/3 pink. Best when put together w/ boiled icing, w/ fresh grated coconut between layers, over top & sides. Bake at 350 till it leaves sides of pans, or test w/ toothpick. About 30 mins. Makes 3 cake pans.
15: "There is no love sincerer than the love of food." ~George Bernard Shaw | Fran Phillips | Strawberry Angel Loaf Cake | 1 -3 oz. pkg. strawberry jello ) dissolve in the hot water 1 c. hot water ) chill til partially set 1/3 c. sugar 2 c. heavy cream whipped or 1 quart Cool Whip 2 c. crushed sweetened strawberries OR 2 small boxes frozen strawberries 1 loaf angel food cake (about 10 x 4 inches) Fold sugar in whipped cream, fold in strawberries and fold this into gelatin mixture. Chill till thick. Cut cake crosswise into 3 layers. Fill layers & frost w/ strawberry mix. Garnish w/ fresh berries. Makes 10 - 15 servings.
16: 2 - 8 oz. cream cheese pkgs. (soft) 1 8 1/2 oz. can crushed pineapple, drained 2 c. chopped pecans 1/4 c. chopped green pepper 2 Tb. chopped onion 1 Tb. seasoned salt Mix, adding 1/2 of the pecans. Form into a ball and place in waxed paper. Chill well. Roll ball in the rest of the pecans and serve. Very nice for the holidays. | HOLIDAY CHEESE BALL
18: BEEF STROGANOFF | 1 1/2 lbs. sirloin steak, cut in 1/2 " strips. sprinkle with juice of 1 lemon 1/4 c. flour 1 tsp. salt 2 small onions, chopped 1/2 lb. fresh mushrooms, cut in small pieces 1 clove garlic 3 tb. fat 2 tb. flour 1 cup beef bouillon 1 tb. Worcestershire sauce 1 cup commercial sour cream Roll steak strips in 1/4 c. flour & salt. Pan fry onions, mushrooms & garlic in fat for 5 mins. Add beef & brown evenly. Then remove meat, onions & mushrooms from pan. Combine flour with drippings in pan, & add bouillon and W. sauce. Cook until thickens. Add sour cream & heat slowly until gravy simmers. Add beef and vegetables & heat for several mins. Do not let it boil. Serve over rice or noodles. 4 - 6 servings Hazel & Barbara
21: BUTTERSCOTCH PIE | Baked pie shell In double boiler (or other pan watch carefully) Mix: 1 cup brown sugar 1/2 c. flour 1/2 tsp. salt 2 Tb. butter -- Stir & cook about 10 mins. Add 1 3/4 c. milk & 1 tsp. vanilla & 3 egg yolks (mixed) Cook slowly until thickened, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and cool slightly before putting into crust. Beat 3 egg whites until stiff, adding 6 Tb. sugar and a little cream of tartar -- this is the meringue. Put on top of butterscotch pie and bake at 375 degrees until delicately browned. 22: Name | Sour Potatoes | 6 large potatoes 16 oz. sour cream 3 cups shredded cheddar cheese 1-4 to 1-2 c. chopped green onions Boil potatoes in skins til done. Shred them with grater & mix in sour cream, cheese & onion. Bake at 350 for 30 mins. Enjoy --- Sue Blankenship

Chip Cookies | 1 1/2 c. br. sugar , 1/2 c. white sugar 1 c. butter, 2 eggs, 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. baking soda, 1 c. peanut butter 2 cups flour, 1 - 12 oz. choc. chips Cream butter & sugar. Beat eggs in separate bowl until foamy. Add butter & sugar & b. powder & soda. Mix well. Fold in p.b. Shake flour in 1 c. at a time. Add choc. c. Bake 350 for 12 - 15 mins.
24: CROCKPOT BEEF STEW 1 lb. stew meat, cubed 3 carrots, 2 potatoes, 1/2 c. celery, 1 onion, chopped 1 Tb. tapioca 1 slice bread, cubed 1 can tomatoes 1 tsp. salt, 1/2 tsp pepper 1/4 tsp. oregano Cook 5 - 6 hrs.at 250 | With Love | Best of Luck to you -- Tylene & Jonathan
25: Name | Judy's Sandwiches | Mix 1/2 c. butter. 1/3 c. mustard, 1 Tb. poppy seeds and 2 Tb. minced onion 6 hamburger buns 6 or more slices of boiled ham 6 slices swiss cheese Spread butter mixture on both sides of buns. Put ham & cheese in buns. Put foil in bottom of 9 x 13 pan. Put buns in pan and more foil over the top. Bake at 350 for 30 mins.
