1: Bon Appetit! | Grandma it's because of you I have a passion for food! I enjoy cooking so much I am a true foody, and you started this spark inside of me! I decided I needed a cook book of our family favorites so that I could easily cook the foods that bring me the most comfort! Thank you for teaching us and inspiring us with food! This books for you! Thanks Grandma! We love you! Plus I'm sure she is ready for us to stop calling her and asking her to send us recipes! I hope everyone uses this as much as I will! Merry Christmas!

2: Ingredients 3 cans Pet evaporated milk ( use only Pet) 1 1/2 cup water 4 eggs 1/2 cup sugar 3/4 tsp. nutmeg 1/2 tsp salt 1 cup whiskey | Directions Beat eggs until light and frothy. Add water and milk. Beat together. Add whiskey and nutmeg. Refrigerate for at least 24 hours. The longer it refrigerates, the creamer it gets. This recipe was a secret recipe of a friend of my mothers. She gave it to mom when we moved to Oelwein ( she would not give it to Mom before that, but felt as long as mom was moving away from Ames, she could share it with her.) I do not know if it is wise to use it today, as it uses fresh eggs, and is not cooked. I used to make this all the time at Holiday time for the adults. | Egg Nog | Cucumber Salad 1/2 Cup Miracle Whip 1 tablespoon vinegar 1 tablespoon sugar dill weed Mix and put over sliced cukes

3: Shrimp Puffs 6 tablespoons butter 3/4 cup water 3/4 cup flour 1/4 teaspoons garlic salt 3 large eggs 1 cup chopped shrimp 1/4 cup sliced green onion 5 tablespoons grated parmesan Melt butter in a pan with water, bring to a boil over medium heat. Stir in flour and garlic salt. Stir vigorously until the dough forms a ball and leaves the sides of the pan, about one minute. Remove from heat and let stand for 5 minutes. Stir in eggs one at a time, blending well. Stir in shrimp, green onion, and 3 tablespoons of parmesan. Drop by the spoonful on a cookie sheet. Sprinkle with parmesan. Bake 400 for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Makes 24 appetizers

4: Grilled Turkey ( on outdoor fireplace that grandpa made a rotisserie for at our house) We did it a few times on the indoor grill. Clean 12 to 14 # turkey inside & out. Sort of dry the inside Put into the cavity: 2 strips of raw bacon 1 stick butter 2 TB salt 2 TB brown sugar Tie legs and wings down. Tie up the cavity with string. Put on a rotisserie and cook for 3 or 4 hours. | Egg In A Basket I used a round cookie cutter to cut the hole in the bread, but you can just cut it out with a knife. Butter both sides of the bread. Put in a skillet. I browned one side of the bread for awhile before I put the egg in. Let it cook for awhile and then flip it over and cook the other side. I did salt the egg a little while it was cooking.

5: Cheese Bread | Ingredients Loaf of bakery bread (could be garlic). 1/2 # Colby cheese, grated. 2 to 3 TB. Mayonnaise Soft Butter Garlic powder Dill Weed ( not seed) | Directions Heat oven to 375 degrees Cut the loaf of bread long way in two Spread w/ butter Sprinkle lightly with garlic powder Mix the grated cheese with the mayonnaise until it is moist Spread the bread with equal parts of cheese mixture. Sprinkle top of cheese mixture with dill weed Put on cookie sheet and put in oven for 20 minutes | Family Favorite

6: Holiday's | Ingredients 2 8oz packages of frozen corn 1 8oz package of cream cheese 1/2 tablespoon of butter 3 tablespoons of butter 3 tablespoons of milk 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder to taste | Directions Mix all ingredients except for corn in a pan on the stove over medium low heat until the cheese is melted. Add corn and cook until corn is warmed through. | Cream Corn | Grandma does make mistakes! She has had this pan since she graduated high school!

8: Wild Rice (X-mas Favorite) | Ingredients 1 cup wild rice (cooked) 4 cups water 1 large onion 1 cup of celery chopped 2 tablespoons of butter 1/4 cup dry white wine slivered almonds 4 oz. can mushrooms with juice 1 can cream of mushroom soup 1/2 tsp. salt & pepper | Directions Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees Saute onion & celery in butter until clear Combine all ingredients and bake 1 hour One batch makes approximately 5 cups. I normally make 3 batches for the holiday, and it fits into the oblong orange baking dish. I also use a box of Uncle Ben's wild and brown rice for part of the wild rice | MOM'S FAVORITE!

10: Ingredients 4 1/3 c. water 1 1/3 c. milk 8 tsp. Butter 2 tsp salt 5 1/3 c. Instant POTATO BUDS (do not substitute any other potato) Grandma now uses real potatoes because the buds are gluten free. | Directions Salt Heat water, Milk ,margarine, and salt to boiling. Remove from heat. Stir in instant potato buds, and stir to make mashed potatoes. Add 1 16 oz. Carton sour cream 1 8 oz. Pkg. Cream cheese Parsley & paprika if you want Pour into greased 9x13 greased glass baking dish. Sprinkle with Paprika and 2 0r 3 pats of margarine. Bake 350 for 30 - 35 min, or until slightly brown. | Party Potatoes | Becca's Favorite | Our first Christmas without Grandma & Grandpa.

11: Hash When I made roast, potatoes & gravy. The next day I could cut up the leftovers and put them all together and heat.I usually had to add a little water while it was heating Sometimes I added the carrots ( but I did not like them, so usually left them out)

12: Sloppy Joe's I used to put about a pound to pound and a half of hamburger in a frying pan and break it up. As it was cooking, I added about 3/4ths of a can of chicken gumbo soup, pouring off some of the juice. Save the juice in case you need it. then I put in a couple squirts of ketchup ( maybe 2 TB?). I also put in about a heaping tsp. of yellow mustard. Just cooked it all together until it was done.

13: Bran Muffins | Ingredients 1 1/4 cup all purpose flour 3 Tsp. Baking Powder 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 cup sugar 1/14 cup milk 1 1/2 cup Kellogg all bran or bran buds 1 egg 12 cup shortening or vegetable oil | Directions Sift together flour, baking powder, salt & sugar. Stir together cereal and milk. Let stand about 2 minutes. Add egg and shortening,, beat well. Add flour mix. Stirring only until combined. fill 12 greased 2 1/2 inch muffin pan cups. Bake 400 degrees about 25 minutes or until golden brown. | Cucumber Boats Take large cucumber and hollow out the middle. Then put flowers in the center and float. Something we did as kids!

14: Mexican Wedding Cakes 1 cup + 2 TB butter 3 heaping TB sugar 2 cup cake flour + 2 TB. ( I always use regular flour) Pinch of salt 2 tsp. vanilla 1 c nut meats ( 6 oz. whole pecans) 3 TB water Bake 350 degrees 30 minutes Roll in powdered sugar while hot out of oven, and then again when cooled off. | Great Food! | Craze & Lori's garden in New Mexico

15: Crock Pot Dressing | Ingredients 1 cup butter or margarine 2 cups chopped onion 2 cups chopped celery cup parsley sprigs 2 8 oz. cans mushrooms, drained. 12 to 13 cups slightly dry bread cubes ( 1 pound loaf of bread) 1 tsp. poultry seasoning 2 well beaten eggs 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. sage 1 tsp. dried thyme tsp pepper tsp. marjoram ( optional, I don’t use) 3 to 4 cups chicken broth or turkey broth & diced giblets | Directions If using a seasoned stuffing mix, omit herbs and salt. Melt butter in skillet and sauté onion, celery parsley and mushrooms. Pour over bread cubes in a very large mixing bowl. Add all seasonings and toss together and well. Pour in enough broth to ;moisten: add beaten eggs and mix together well. Pack lightly into crock-pot. Cover and set on High for 45 minutes; then reduce to low to cook for 4 to 8 hours. | Becca's garden in Austin, TX

16: Chicken Parisinne | Ingredients 6 MED CHICKEN BREASTS ( I use Chicken thighs) SALT AND PEPPER CUP DRY WINE (OPTIONAL)( BUT I USUALLY USE A RHINE WINE ) 2 10 OZ. CANS COND. CREAM OF MUSH. SOUP 2 14 OZ. CAN SLICED MUSHROOMS ( I HAVE SLICED FRESH MUSHROOMS AND USED THEM) 1 PINT DAIRY SOUR CREAM | Directions COMBINE WINE, SOUP, MUSHROOMS, & SOUR CREAM. PUT A SMALL AMOUNT IN BOTTOM OF BAKING DISH. I USUALLY DUST CHIX. BREASTS WITH FLOUR, AND LAY THEM ON TOP OF THE MIXTURE. COVER THEM WITH THE REST OF THE SOUP MIX. COVER WITH LID OR FOIL. ( I serve this over cooked rice) BAKE IN OVEN: (YOU HAVE A CHOICE) 325 FOR 3 HOURS 375 FOR 2 HOURs 250 FOR 8 HOURS Can also be made in Crock Pot., but I think it is better in oven. Low 6 to 8 hours High 2 to 3 hours.

17: Clam Chowder 4 cans minced clams ( 71/2 oz). Reserve broth Fresh clams are naturally preferable, if they can be obtained. Use 2 to 3 doz large chowder clams. Wash first, then steam, and chop coarsely. Reserve liquid. ( of course I have never done that!) pound lean salt pork or bacon. Diced fine. ( I really like salt pork if you can find it). 3 medium onions, peeled and chopped fine ( about 4 cups) salt to taste t pepper ( white or black) 1 tsp. dried basil. 1 tsp. thyme ( I am very careful with this, and use only about tsp) 1 cup water 2 cups heavy cream 2 cups milk 3 TB white flour mixed with 3 TB butter to make a beurre manie OR 3 TB flour mixed with cup water to make smooth paste. 1 bottle of clam juice Parsley, butter, paprika to garnish ( I never did this) 1. Render the salt pork or bacon until crisp, but not burnt. 2. Remove all but 3 TB grease. 3. Sauté onions & celery until transparent. 4. Add clam broth, bottle of clam juice, 1 cup water, diced potatoes, pepper, basil, & thyme. 5. Simmer only until potatoes are firmly cooked. ( do not overcook) 6. Thicken soup at this point with beurre manie or flour and water mixture. Add thickening and whisk for a few minutes. 7. Add clams. Do not add earlier. Clams take on a leathery quality if overcooked. 8. Add milk and cream. Correct for seasoning. 9. Garnish with parsley, butter and dash of paprika. | Every Christmas Eve we ate this recipe! | Picking fresh strawberries in Grandma's garden is a favorite memory

18: Ingredients 1/2 cup shortening or butter 1/2 cup sugar 2 cups flour 1/8 teaspoon salt 1 cup crushed nuts Mix & press in greased 9x13 pan. Bake 350 for 10-15 minutes Beat 6 egg yolks & add: 2 cups sugar 1/4 teaspoon salt 4 tablespoons flour 1 cup half & half or milk zest of one orange 5 cups of rhubarb Bake 350 for 45 minutes Top with: 6 egg whites, 1 cup of sugar, & salt. Bake 350 for 15 minutes | Directions | Rhubarb Dessert | Rhubarb Cake 1 cup brown sugar cup shortening ( Butter) 1 egg 1 cup sour cream or buttermilk. Add: 1 tsp soda 2 cups flour Add: 1 tsp vanilla Stir In: 1 cup chopped Rhubarb. Add cup white sugar to rhubarb. Sprinkle on top: cup sugar with 1 tsp. cinnamon. Put into a 9 x 13 pan and bake 350 degrees 35 min.

19: Rachel's new favorite! | Dump Cake 1 (18.25 ounce) package yellow cake mix 4 cups fresh blueberries 1/2 cup white sugar 1/2 cup butter, melted 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Mix berries, sugar, and cinnamon in the bottom of a 9 x 13 inch pan. Cover berries with dry cake mix. Pour butter over cake mix, do not stir. Bake for 30 minutes, or until light brown. Serve warm or cold. top with ice cream.

21: Hot Chocolate | Ingredients 1 pound of Nestle's Hot Cocoa Mix 8oz. of Pream Powdered Cream 1 Cup Powdered Sugar 8 Quart Box of Powdered Milk | Directions Mix dry ingredients together and store in a airtight container. When ready to make a sup of hot chocolate, put 2 spoonfuls of mix in a mug of hot water. Microwave 30 seconds or until hot and add marshmallows! | Every fall Grandma would make a huge batch of this and bring it too us to get us through the winter! Sledding always ended with a cup of Grandma's hot cocoa! | Memory:
