6: All My Exes Live in Texas | E | Song Country | All My Exes Live in Texas was a song written by George Strait about Texas. The song was part of the album called " Ocean Front Property". George Strait who was born and raised in Texas wrote this song mainly about his past "ex's".
7: Texas Music Festival | F | Festival Classical | The Texas Music Festival is held at the University of Houston in Houston, Texas. This festival is for young adults to show their musical talent by playing classical music. The age ranges from 18-30 and has a wide variety of instruments that are available to play.
8: George Strait | G | Solo Artist Country | George Strait was born on May 18, 1952 in Poteet, Texas. He began playing music as a teenager in a rock 'n' roll garage band. In 1973, Strait enlisted in the army, stationed in Hawaii. He began to play country music with the Army-sponsored band. George Strait has won many awards for his country music and has a vacation house in Rockport, Texas.
9: Hill's Cafe | H | Venue Country | Hills Cafe is a popular venue located in Austin, Texas. It has been at its same location for over 56 years and is known to showcase country music. Although Hill's Cafe has a great selection of country music they are also known for their good food. The owner of Hill's Cafe is Bob Cole.
10: If it Wasn't For Texas | Song Country | This song was written about all the wonderful things of Texas. George Strait wrote this song himself and is widely known throughout Texas. In the lyrics it talks about The Alamo, Willie Nelson, ACL and a lot of other Texas favorites.
11: Texas Jazz Festival | Festival Jazz | The Texas Jazz Festival is held at Heritage Park in Corpus Christi, Texas. First starting in 1960, the festival is the largest free music event in the world. More than 50,000 people come to enjoy the three-day long jazz festival.
12: Kerrville Folk Music Festival | Festival Folk music | The Kerrville music festival is held 9 miles south of Kerrville, Texas. The music continues for over 18 days. Local or famous singer-songwriters perform here. A songwriting competition is held on the first weekend and shows 32 of the best Texas song writers.
13: La Zona Rosa | Venue Rock | La Zona Rosa is a venue located in Austin, Texas. La Zona Rosa can hold up to 1,200 fans at one time, and offers a tex-mex cuisine. Some of the most famous bands have been known to play here.
14: Dale Marsh | Solo Artist Folk | Dale Marsh was born in rural West Texas near the New Mexican border. He began singing in the church choir at a young age and taught himself how to play the guitar at age 13. His greatest musical inspiration was his 5th grade teacher.
15: Nutty Brown Cafe | Venue All | Nutty Brown Cafe is one of the thousand venues located in Austin Texas. Open all week the Nutty Brown Cafe shows live music of all types and has a wide selection of food.
16: Streets Of Laredo | Song country | Streets of Laredo is a song inspired by Laredo, Texas. It was written by Buck Owens who had 21 number 1 hits on the Billboard country music charts. Owens was born in Sherman, Texas which made him write other songs about Texas besides Streets of Laredo.
17: Pat Green | Solo Artist Country | Pat Green was born in Waco, Texas with five sisters and four brothers. As a husband and father Green writes and sings mostly country music. One of his best and most popular album is "What I'm For".
18: Quatershackle | Band Rock | Quatershackle is a well known band from Austin, Texas. This band was recognized as Austin, Texas's best band and won third place in the "Best Group of 2005" category in 2005. The members are Chris Ferrel: drums, Blaine Matte: bass, Cameron Meadows: guitar and Joseph Schlaudraff: vocals.
19: That's Right You're Not From Texas | Song Country | This song was written about the setting and overall pride of Texas. It is on Lyle Lovett's 1996 album "The Road to Ensenada". The second verse is a tribute to a band from South Carolina who later became associated with the Austin, Texas country music scene.
20: Stubbs BBQ | Venue All | Stubbs BBQ originally first opened in Lubbock, Texas in 1968 but later transfered to Austin, Texas. The founder of Stubbs BBQ was Christopher B. Stubblefield who was born in Navasota, Texas and one of nine sons. Now Stubbs BBQ is a very popular venue in Austin, Texas.
21: Texas Our Texas | Song | "Texas Our Texas" is Texas's state song. It was adopted by the Legislature in 1929 after being selected in a competition. The song was composed by William J. Marsh of Fort Worth, Texas. The lyrics where written by Marsh and Gladys Wright.
22: Unified Tribe | Band Jazz Blues Pop | Unified Tribe is a band located in Texas. This group of individuals love to celebrate jazz, blues and pop. Their first album debuted in 2001 and was called 'Listen To This." In 2003 their most popular album was"Mixed Messages". Their first single release, "Back And Forth" was ranked number 2 on Hip Hop/R&B songs chart.
23: Vallejo | Band Rock | Vallejo is known to being one of the most famous bands that came from Austin, Texas. Vallejo was first formed by the three Vallejo brothers, A.J, Omar and Alejandro. The band has toured all over the U.S and Mexico, sharing stages with Fuel, 3 Doors Down and many more famous bands. In 2010 the band released their newest album "Acousta".
24: Willie Nelson | Solo Artist Country | Willie Nelson was born April 30, 1933 in Abbott, Texas. He has written over 2,500 songs and has over 300 albums. Nelson and his older sister were both raised by their grandparents during the Great Depression. Willie Nelson is widely known for being a singer-songwriter and actor.
25: Under the X in Texas | Song Country/swing | "Under the X in Texas" is a song written by Johnny Gimble and is about Texas. Gimble wrote this because he was homesick for Texas while he was in Nashville.
26: Yoakum Tom Tom Festival | Festival counrty | Held on the first weekend of June the TomTom parade and festival is held in Yoakum, Texas. The festival honors the the local tomatoes that are grown in Yoakum. Some of the other known events that occur at the festival are its royalty pageants and its famous country music.
27: ZZ Top | Band Rock | The three members from zz Top are all from Texas. Frank Beard and Dusty Hill were both from Dallas and Billy Gibbons was born in Houston. Gibbons learned about R&B by his family's maid who was African American. By 1990 the band had sold over 50 million tracks. ZZ Top's 1996 album was considered one of their best.
