FC: ADHD: The Book About Mark Jordan
Since little Mark Jordan was born, he has always been active.
He loves to run around and jump on anything in sight. Mark's mother never really got mad because he was young.
As he got older, his mother started to notice that Mark would act that way everywhere and not just at home.
Whenever Mark went to school,he was always in trouble. Mark would never stay in his seat or stop talking. He would never do his homework.
Mark would always come home and just play his games. His teacher would always send notes home so his mother would know what he was not doing.
The teacher wrote, "He does not do his work and it is becoming a problem. He needs to change his habits or he will fail."
Finally, she just called his mother and told her everything that was going on with Mark at school.
Mark was being mean to the other kids during play time, and the other kids were becoming afraid of him.
Mark's teacher said, " He may have a case ADHD. If he goes to the doctor, he can get tested. This may help to solve the problem."
That next afternoon Mark's mom took him to the doctor's office to get tested. Since Mark was seven years old, he was old enough to get one.
Little Mark hated the doctor's office because he was scared and didn't know what the doctor was going to do.
The first thing they did when they called little Mark back was check his weight, height, and blood pressure.
The nurse asked him a lot of questions like, "Can you sit still? Do you eat a lot?"
When a child has ADHD their eating habits can change and they can start to eat more or sometimes less.
Mark also had to take a test on the computer and see how he did with his math and reading skills. It turned out he did poorly on the skill tests.
Mark became very sad that he did not pass the test, and it proved that he did indeed have a case of ADHD.
The doctor told Mark's mom that he was going to put him on Ritalin, which is the leading drug to fight ADHD.
After a few days of Mark taking the medicine, his mom and teacher saw a big improvement in his habits at home and at school.
He had started to calm down and pay more attention to his work and less on video games.
By the end of the year, Mark Jordan had successfully passed his grade!
