FC: Life of a Star By: Alison Brown

I would like to dedicate this book to my fabulous teachers, without them this book wouldn't be possible! | Dedication

Nebula | This is the first stage in a stars life. Also, the star is made by gravity pulling gas and dust together. It makes a sphere. When the sphere gets thicker, it gets very hot. The hydrogen turns into helium. This stage is nuclear fusion.

Main-Sequence Star | It is the second stage in a stars life. Energy is made in the center of the star in this stage. A lot of energy is released during this stage. The stars size won't change very much at this time. This is also where most stars are on the H-R diagram.

Giants and Supergiants | This is the third stage in a stars life cycle. Now, a star can be a red giant. A red giant is a large, star that is a red color and is late in its life cycle. The star gets larger and gets colder after it uses all of its hydrogen. When the star loses its hydrogen, it gets smaller. Red super giants are ten times the size of the sun, and red giants are 100 times the size of the sun.

White Dwarf | This is the fourth and last stage in a star's life. To be called a white dwarf, a star has to be the mass of the sun or smaller. A white dwarf is the leftover center of an old star that is small, hot and dim. There is no hydrogen in a white dwarf. White dwarfs can still be bright billions of years previous to when they are completely cooled down.
