4: The first people to reach India came from Africa in 40,000 BC.
5: India came together to trade. They settled by the Gangus and Indus Rivers so they could have food, water for crops, and wash their clothes.
6: The Harappa People The Harappa people had no government or rulers. In the city there were straight streets, brick homes and private baths! Kids had toys and women wore lipstick.
7: The end of the Harappa people was caused by the Aryans. They invaded Harappa.
8: The Aryans Aryan people put red dots on their foreheads as a sign of marriage. They had no sophisticated government. They came from modern day Russia.
9: They lived in clans ruled by their warrior chief. The chief made a decision after listening to a committee. You could voice your opinion, but the chief had the final say.
10: The Gupta Empire The Gupta people dominated Northern Russia. The people were very happy during this period because they had religious freedom and free medical care.
11: The people were paid for their work. They raised cows for milk and wheat was a main crop grown. The Gupta Empire fell apart in 500 AD. Three rulers that ruled The Gupta Empire were Chandragupta, Samudragupta and Kumaragupta.
12: Mohenjo Daro Mohenjo Daro was a powerful city located in modern day Pakistan, southwest of Sukkur. It was the most advanced city in south Asia. The city was established originally for trade.

14: Classes of People & Jobs Untouchables/Slaves: collecting garbage and people's feces Servants/Farmhands: sometimes they were farmers or would work for other people
15: Vivasians: people who owned their own land, farms or businesses Kshatriya/Warriors: people in the army or leaders Brahmans: priests or leaders; only men could go to school; Brahman women couldn't
18: Dictionary of Government Democracy- Anyone could be in government or vote. Dictatorship- ruled by force. A dictator. Monarchy- A group ruled by a Queen, King, or Emperor.
19: Oligarchy- A small group ruling over something. Republic- A president is elected and the power's in the people. Theocracy- You have to go through a priest to talk to God.
