FC: Andrew Young Civil Rights Activist
1: Born March 12, 1932 New Orleans, Louisiana Young began college at Dillard university but later transferred to Howard University in 1947 and received a Bachelor's Degree of Science. Originally he had planned to become a dentist, like his father but felt drawn to the church. He entered Hartford Seminary in Connecticut in 1955.
3: He was ordained as a Congregationalist Minister 1951 He then joined King in the SCLC and coordinated marches and Demonstrations.
4: After King's death, Young goes in to politics, becoming the first Representative from Georgina since Reconstruction. 1972-1976
6: In 1977, Young became the first Black Ambassador to the U.N, under the Carter administration. | His blunt manner of speaking was often controversial enough to make headlines.
7: In 1981, After qutting his Amvassadorship, Young became Mayor of Atlanta and was a major influence on the city's enduring prosperity by, on top of many things, securing the Olympic Bid in 1996. Young continues to work for the people as a private citizen, as both chairman of the Good Work International and the Global initiative for the Advancement of Nutritional Therapy.
