FC: Rights and Responsibilities When Turning 18
The day you're 18 you have a lot more freedom, however, you do take on more responsibilities then ever before. One responsibility you have to take on is being called for jury duty. Since you are now legally an "adult", jury duty is something you may encounter.
Once you turn 18 more rights are presented to you as well. One example is voting, the day you turn 18 you are allowed to vote for whomever you want in office.
Along with all those good rights and responsibilities of becoming 18, there are some set-backs if you're not careful. Unfortunately a large number of teenagers find themselves getting into credit card debt, but this time it's you're problem.
Since you're now legally an adult all the laws that prohibited you from working overtime as a minor are now lifted and you can work whenever, however and work in whatever field you choose.
If you're 18 and a male you can now legally sign up for the army without you're parents permission. It's also important to know that as an 18 year old male in the United States you MUST register for the draft no later than 30 days after your 18th birthday!
If you really wanted to, you could also legally become married. You would have to follow the same legal guidelines as everyone else but that option is now open.
For the first time in your life you can now sign contracts in your name. You could take out a loan, buy a car, make agreements, essentially anything you wanted and it would all be 100% in your name.
Since you can be completely free from your parent's control, 18 year olds are also able to create wills of their own.
