This will be my new home. Theirs my old home too. | The German and American flags The Statue of Liberty Ellis Island

June 15 , 1910 My family and I are going to America to be free. I am coming from Germany with my parents, brothers and sisters. We have been on the boat for days and should be very close to Ellis Island by now. It is very hot because it is the beginning of June. My mother told us we would be separated and have to go through tests. My older brother got me sick, and now I have a cold. There are about 100 maybe 200 people on the boat and its really crowded. I wish I was off this hot boat and taking a dip in the water. | Germany's flag

June 16, 1910 I have just ported at Ellis Island and it is huge. The water is so close to shore and the ocean is a blowing a nice breeze that fills the whole Island.. As I walk through it ,at first I was nervous, but after a wile it was a lot better. When I was walking I met the strangest girl.; at least strange to me. She was so nice and said her family was coming from Ireland . I told her I was coming from Germany. Wale we were walking we were separated, but we meet up later We had to walk up 3 flights of stairs and made it to the top! After that it was easy. | My luggage

June 17, 1910 When I was getting tested, I was very good at most. of the questions The crew was very nice and helped me. I had gotten a cold from the boat ride over ,o I had to stay there for a few extra days. until I was better The good thing was Mary Jane was sick to so we stayed together. We both played with our dolls that we brought with us, and made up stories. The woman taking care of us had told our parents and when we were going to leave, so that they could meet us.

June 20,1910 I was allowed to leave at the same time as Mary Jane, but we had to stay 2 days before leaving. When they told me I could go home my heart was filled with JOY1 They had contacted my family and told them I was allowed to leave. I was walking down the halls with MJ and I saw from the top of the steps my older brother's fat head and I leaped from the top to the bottom. As I hugged every one it felt like it was home. | Ellis Island as I saw it for the first time. and the Stature of Liberty

Germany is great. There are wonderful things about it, but there are bad too. The good things are being fluent in the language, the food, and all my friends and family. The bad thing is there are a lot of restrictions for women. not all of my country is free, and the ruler is so mean. | The German Flag | The American flag | America is wonderful but I miss my friends and annoying neighbors. Where I live is not so far away from my school , and I live near Mary Jane. I have made new friends on the way, but no one will replace my friends in Germany.

 Family | I have a mother, a Father, 3 brothers, 3 sisters, and me. | Jen | Kate | Jack | Libby | William | Brendan | Dad Mom | Claire (Me)
