1st Entry | Hi, I am 13 years old. Everyone calls me Asta’s son because my mothers name is Asta. I am an only child and my father died of the plague before I was born. I work on the field every day because I am a peasant. Today my mother died so the priest, Father Quinel, and I are carrying her body to the burial. I was met by John Aycliffe who said that I had to give him every thing I had to him. Once he left I asked father Quinel what to do he said run. England 1377
2nd Entry | When I ran I found John Aycliffe talking to a man I had never seen. He was showing him a document. I can not read so I had no idea what it said. I stood up and started to run away. They saw me and sprinted after me. Once I lost them, I climbed up a tall rock looking over the town. By now it was morning and everyone was gathered in front of the church. When Father Quinel and John Aycliffe walked out of the church, they said that I was declared a wolfs head. Which means anyone can kill me. He said that I had stolen something from his house. That night I went to the church to see Father Quinel. He gave me my mothers cross and he said my name is Crispin. I am suppose to meet him tomorrow night to tell me some thing about my parents. I wait the next until night, then I went to the church to meet Father Quinel. At the church there was a boy who said that Father Quinel can not meet with me. I went to the oldest and wisest person in my village. She said to run away. The boy said to go west so I did. At the edge of my village people started chasing me so I turned the other way and ran.I almost got killed by John Aycliffe. At the other end of my village, I found Father Quinel dead and his throat slit.
3rd Entry | When I ran away from my town, Stromford, I became really hungry. I was walking for a long time and I came upon a small abandoned village. In the village there was a man and he was singing a song and betting on a drum. He saw me and stopped playing. He asked me what I was doing there and all I said was I am hungry. He held out a loaf of bread and when I tried to get it he pulled it back to himself. I asked him why I could not have the bread. He said “ Bread comes with a price. If you the bread you have to work as my apprentice.” I said yes because I really wanted the bread. He gave me the bread and told me he was a jester. He also told me that his name is Bear and I told him my name is Crispin. With out thinking I told Bear every thing from my mom to me being a wolfs head. The next day he taught me how to juggle and how to play the recorder. We left the village to go to another town. At the town we played and danced for them and we got bread and money. We went to many more towns and got even more money and bread. Bear told me that we will now go to Great Wexly because he had to do some thing.
We walked a little while and then we came upon a big gate. Bear said this was the entrance to Great Wexly. There was a lot of soldiers in front of the gate. We started dancing and playing and the soldiers let us right in. In the town there was a lot of house and people. We were headed for an inn. Once we got inside the inn we were greeted by a woman. We followed her up the stairs and into a room. I was told to stay in that room. Bear and the woman left. I got very bored so I walked down the stairs and out the door. I bought some bread and then I just wandered around the town. I went into a church and when I got up and looked behind me Aycliffe was standing right there. I started running out of the church and down the road. A second time I almost got killed by Aycliffe. I went down a small alley and I bumped into Bear. He brought me bake to the Green Man Tavern, where we were staying. We talked a little then we fell asleep. | 4th Entry
5th Entry | When I woke up the next morning, Bear was still asleep. I walked down the stairs and Widow Daventry put me to work. When soldiers walked into the inn, Widow Daventry had me run up stairs and hide in the wall. When she came and let me out I asked her what my mothers cross of lead said on it. She said “ Crispin Furnival.” When I looked around for Bear he was not there. He had been taken by the soldiers. I went to the palace and walked in the door. I found Aycliffe and he swore to let me go in return for my mothers cross to let me and Bear go free. When we got to the gate Aycliffe and his soldiers surrounded us. The soldiers had their swords up. Bear picked up John Aycliffe and threw him onto the swords. I put my cross of lead on his chest. Bear and I walked out of the town, free. From that point on I knew my name was Crispin Furnival.
6th Entry | If I could meet Crispin I would ask him how he is still alive. He almost got killed twice and he is only 13. Another question I would ask him is what he thought when he found out that his name was Crispin Furnival. If I was him I would be in disbelief because his dad left him with nothing and he was very wealthy.
