FC: Elements of Hip-Hop
Hip-hop music is related to griots of West Africa.Toasting is the act of talking or chanting over a rhythm or beat.Blues dances were dances which took place in large halls or out in the open in the slum yards.
In the 1970s and 1980s, the term for MC is short for master of ceremonies. It's now called rapping in hip-hop.
DJ, stands for disc jockey or deejay. A Dj is an individual who selects and plays pre-recorded music for the enjoyment of others.
Graffiti goes as far back as during World War II. During the fifties street gangs used graffiti for self-promotion, marking territorial boundaries and intimidation. Around 1969 something changed and graffiti became a way of life with it's own code of behavior.
No one knows who started graffiti during this era but we do know who made it famous. It was TAKI 183. The origin of tagging began in New York City in the early 70s. By a mail carrier named Vic. He began to write his name and his mail carrier number on every subway and bus he rode.
Break dancing was a style of dancing that grew up around hip-hop music during it's early stages of development in the U.S. Break dancing stretched the body to it's limit. The most basic break dance moves are the 6-step and toprock.
