Entree 1 | I am Elijah Freeman. I am the first free-born in Buxton, Canada, a settlement of runnaway slaves. I am eleven years old. When I was a baby Mr. Fredrick Douglas came to Buxton for a speech. When he was speaking he picked me up and was bouncing me on his head. After almost ten minutes of bouncing...I let loose. I threw up so much the whole town said I was still puking after thirty minutes! I live in a small house on the edge of town. My ma and pa live with me but I do not have any brothers and sisters. Me and Cooter are best friends. I am Elijah and I live in Buxton.
Entree 2 | Sunday after church I was doing my chores with the preacher and Cooter came running up to us. I did not know why but he had a bad look on his face. I knew something was wrong when he had that face. We were looking around and saw a weird snake track. The preacher gave us a HUGE lecture about them hoop snakes. He told us ten days after the bite you blow up! after you blow up you eventually die of starvation and if he ever was bit to blow his head off of his shoulders. I ran inside as fast as I could, witch is not very fast because I am not very athletic. Once inside told ma everything that the preacher told me. She just said that they were fake and the preacher was using grown up talk. I think ma was crazy. Snakes... the scariest thing on earth.
Entree 3 | Lorem,Lorem,Lorem! When I was eight, we were in the middle of Latin lessons when Mr.Brown told us that all the white people had to leave first and the rest of us after that. I knew something was wrong because there was no way anyone would let us leave school early. There were groups of four students. I was in the last group to leave. Finally my dad and Mr.Leroy took us home. There was so many people next to us carrying rifles. I could tell everyone was scared. I knew right off the bat that there was slave catchers somewhere close. Just to make shore I asked pa. He said scarcely ”I can’t tell you son.” Since he could not tell me I knew he there was some. The preacher walked by and pa told him “Go check in the woods.” He did not come back for a couple of days and most of the women started to plan his funeral. He came back after 5 days. He came back with his mystery pistol. I hate that day.
Entree 4 | Gold,Gold,Gold!!! For the my husband, John Holton, Who past on May 7, 1859, But still lives. The body is not Made to endure, There’s something inside so strong, It flies forever For Mr.Holton I finally found the perfect words to put on Mrs.Holton’s door. Me and Mr.Leroy were going there to start carving the door. She was probably sleeping because her hair was weird. She came out right when Mr.Leroy started making some noise. He must of carved very fast because he was done in like 5 minutes to me. After, Mrs.Holton gave me a whole dime. I was suprised what she gave Mr.Leroy... a box. Just a plain old box. Once Mr.Leroy opened it I could not believe what I saw. 22 thousand dollars in GOLD.
Entree 5 | Today Mr. Leroy came over to tell ma and pa about the money he got to free his family of slavery. After five words he started balling. Pa told me to leave but I wanted to stay because I thought him crying was amusing. The preacher just walked in and told Mr. Leroy that he would do anything for that money, but of course Mr. Leroy just told him to leave and he did. Soon after Mr. Leroy and Mr. Highgate were traveling down to where the slaves were held. What they did not know was that someone was following them...the preacher. The preacher had a gun too. Once they got there Mr. Highgate was shot and the money was stolen by the PREACHER.
Entree 6 | If I spent a day with Elijah I would ask him these questions: Did you ever meet the Hoop snake? If you could throw up on Fredrick Douglas would you? Did you ever find Mr. Leroy’s money? I would find Mr. Leroy’s money with him too. I would probably want to meet hope too. I would also want to travel back in time and give the preacher a painful death!
