FC: The Violence Stops Here! (gang activity)
2: Crimes and violence have always been part of society in the U.S. But most people start to become involved in gang related activities in teenagers years. Gangs were basic institutions such as family figures, or role models.Usually when a person join a gang it is because they are wanting to be loved or have low self-esteem. Sometimes people join gangs because there are needs for money.
3: Even though violence plays a large role in gang life, gang activity is not always violent. But on the other hand, gang activity negatively effects today's society through the acts of crimes and death.
4: Gangs tear apart communities and disrupt schools. Easy access to firearms makes threats even more greater, creating an environment of intimidation and fear. | According to (Leading the Fight Against Gangs in the U.S.)In today's society, gang life is idolized in movies, television, and fashion.
5: Did you know that approximately 400,000 teens are involved in gang activity nationwide? By the time a child is 10 years old, he or she will have seen 8,000 murders on tv.
6: The top crimes committed by gangs are: shoplifting assault and harassment rape and sexual assault drug dealing drive-by shootings carjacking
7: Gangs use graffiti as a form of communication or message board to the community and other gangs. Graffiti has led to beatings, drive-by shootings, and murders.
8: Statistics shows that 50% of urban murders are from selling and buying drugs. There are approximately 25,000 gangs in the U.S. with more than 650,000 members. The average life-span of a gang member is 20 years and five months(rivalry with other gangs usually affects the life span).
9: Why you shouldn't join a gang: Gangs usually have rivalries with other gangs for control of neighborhoods. Gangs put families in danger, and the world as a whole. If you joined a gang and decided to get out you will be beaten which may result in death. Quitting a gang causes you to lose your protection of the gang but not your former enemies.
