4: Choosing artifacts for this area of learning demanded much reflection since technology played a major role in this M.Ed program. Additionally, to fully participate in lectures and to maximize learning through collaboration and interactive technologies, students were compelled to familiarize themselves with multimedia, learning management systems and basic technical skills. With a large number of projects suited to this category, it was necessary to develop a set of criteria to evaluate those under consideration. While many could function in multiple themes, the three I have chosen to represent this area demonstrates my learning of new technologies and their use in curricula, as well as a deeper understanding of how the computer acts as a tutor, tool, and tutee. 5: The artifacts chosen for this theme are Creativity & Collaboration in Online Media, included for the large number of creative applications and the variety of possible uses; the 2nd artifact is The Majestic Poppy, which illustrates several technologies, some of the difficulties incurred using digital media, and because it was my first experience using mindtools to enhance learning in the primary school curriculum. The final artifact for inclusion is the Technology & Me project, which technically is fairly simple , the importance is derived from the creative possibilities of a common application (PowerPoint) that can act as an alternative medium when Internet access is not available. 6: Summary of the Project This project was a collaborative effort to illustrate creative online applications that support collaboration and personal expression, while highlighting primarily open source software. The project components include an online magazine publication that presents my ideas on developing a creative mind, the second part is a breakout room instructional video that demonstrated the possibilities for any faculty when a creative mind is cultivated, (access to video not available upon the creator's request) and the final segment is a video remix produced and directed by Sasha Geukjian, which demonstrates the potential when creativity, collaboration, and technology join forces. | My Part | 1st Artifact
7: It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are. ~e.e. cummings | Peer Segments | This project is included in my portfolio of learning primarily for the endless possibilities the technologies offer for creative learning, as well as for their availability as open source software. Additionally, this project required me to venture outside of my comfort zone when asked to contribute a short clip of myself for inclusion in our video, which was something I felt very uncomfortable doing. As well, the project was not exactly a great success in terms of its unity and presentation timings, which were also considerations for its inclusion. While I think each of our segments showed great creativity and potential, the projects were a little disjointed instead of being united as a cohesive unit. It is also my belief that the project suffered from communication problems and perhaps generational differences. as well. We three collaborators may all be artistically inclined, but it does not necessarily mean we had the same vision or the means for accomplishing it
8: The Majestic Poppy | A Designed Use of a Mind Tool in a Curriculum Initiative | Poppy Video Unit of Study with Mindtool Design Handbook for students
9: This online publication was designed as a unit of study in support of the Ontario Grade 6 Arts Curriculum Document section D1.2. The project was originally created in PowerPoint and then published as a magazine for both its accessibility and as an initiative to encourage students to develop their own online libraries. Unfortunately some of the text did not convert properly when published and the video elements did not play. This of course is a good example of compatibility issues, and perhaps also illustrates the need for constraint in the design, the necessity of a back-up plan, and perhaps more time to learn the full capabilities and limitations of the software or technology. | 2nd Artifact

11: Course: Technology & the Curriculum Introductory Assignment: Technology & Me PowerPoint Art Gallery This project was chosen primarily because it was a creative way to get us thinking about our own technology use, and it provided a personally relevant and unique way for students to introduce themselves. My secondary purpose for including this project was for its representation as the least technical of all my multi-media assignments, and it is an application I have used throughout my professional and personal life, though had never tested the animation tools until introduced to it by a fellow student. This project completed in Technology and the Curriculum, prompted me to begin thinking about the evolution of technology over the decades, and my use of the very basic to the highly complicated. Even though this PowerPoint presentation was easier to develop than some of the more complex technologies used in this program, I was still not able to open the links with a single click of the mouse; instead a right click was required to follow the link to its location. However, creating this art gallery led me to further explore the possibilities PowerPoint held for future animated projects, some of which I attempted without complete success, but will use them as areas of learning requiring further research or instruction when time permits. More importantly, PowerPoint offers students who do not have Internet access the possibility to create animated slide presentations that can be just as inventive as some of the online presentation software. While I have used PowerPoint for several decades and in each course of this program, I had never ventured into the more intricate elements of this popular software, so this artifact also represents a merging of the old with the new and serves as a reminder that even the "coolest' technologies are not always the best.

13: Through both my own research and that of peers, I have tested many exciting technologies in each course taken.
