Where I'm From I’m from Georgia peaches and boiled peanuts, From a place where everyone is as nice as a Spring Day From barbeque's with all the neighbors, And telling stories till early into the next morning I’m from staying up late on Saturday night And then having to wake up early Sunday to go to church From a place where doing nothing on Sunday Is a rarely broken tradition I’m from late nights on the baseball fields And even earlier mornings From a place where my opportunity Is as endless as space
I’m from a place where school and family ARE the most important things From sitting around the dinner table with my family every night No matter what I was doing or what I needed to do I’m from spending the whole summer outside Playing baseball with my friends From spending long summer days out on our boat And living every moment to the fullest
Mom’s kitchen, Where mom slaves over the oven for hours on end Just to feed my family every night Where my aunt takes over on Christmas, To bake her amazing deserts Apple pie or Brownies? I can never decide
Where on Thanksgiving night, You can find enough food spread across our green countertops To feed a small city Where my whole family, Could eat a whole dead turkey in under one hour And still have room for desert Mom’s kitchen Where mom can never get enough praise For all she does in there
Language arts is no fun I always try to run But my teachers chase me I still try to flee It's like trying to escape a dragon Poetry is a useless subject That is a complete conflict It's like getting punched in the face Or being hit with a Mace For me it has never clicked Even worse is writing Essays We are forced to write them on Thursdays I don't like them at all I would rather be mauled They leave me in a complete daze
I can never spell It traps me in a cell Trying to sound out the word It's just absurd It makes me want to yell But at the end of the day I just have to say You need Language arts Or you can never be smarts You will end up working at a Café
Mother to son Let me tell you son Life hasn't been a smooth car ride There have been pot holes to avoid And rough roads There's been animals that run out in front of you And you have to learn to move out of their way
There have been oil changes and gas problems But you got to fix your car and move on But you can never stop driving Or you will never reach your destination And I keep on driving But life hasn’t been a smooth ride
GSMST the school with infinite possibilities Where the students can do anything they put their mind to Where the students aren’t limited by their abilities There’s nothing we can’t do Where school is the most important thing And a GPA doesn’t always show your smarts Where the teachers push you to do your best GSMST is a school where one day I could be king Where math is more important than the arts And we can’t be stopped by the rest Sure the school can be tough at times It will drive some people away But if you work at it u will do fine You will sometimes want to say “This is not worth it” But if it’s what you love You can never concede I will sometimes admit Sometimes I need a shove To exceed
If you can manage to stick it out The rewards are endless You will without a doubt Live on with lots of success Your future will be golden You can be an engineer Or be the president Follow it through and then Good jobs will appear And you can invent At GSMST the students are all different And the teachers are all great Everyone tries to prevent Any debate Among anyone at the school Always helping one another out When we struggle Everyone is jewel There is no doubt That we can do anything, even juggle
So if you can make it through all the tough times Through all the homework Maybe even make a rhyme And keep from going berserk If u can get over all of that GSMST maybe the school for you And you may too be able to get the rewards So come up to bat And listen for your cue And you too can accept all your awards.
Road Less Taken by: Robert Frost TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.
Messy Room By: Shel Silverstien Whosever room this is should be ashamed! His underwear is hanging on the lamp. His raincoat is there in the overstuffed chair, And the chair is becoming quite mucky and damp. His workbook is wedged in the window, His sweater's been thrown on the floor. His scarf and one ski are beneath the TV,
And his pants have been carelessly hung on the door. His books are all jammed in the closet, His vest has been left in the hall. A lizard named Ed is asleep in his bed, And his smelly old sock has been stuck to the wall. Whosever room this is should be ashamed! Donald or Robert or Willie or-- Huh? You say it's mine? Oh, dear, I knew it looked familiar!
