1: Immigrants come from all over the world, but Chinese people were the first Asian immigrants to come to the U.S.
2: on page one the Chinese men are helping to build the transcontinental railroad
3: During the mid 1800's immigration grew quickly. due to the California gold rush, and a significant amount of immigrants were Chinese. Because there were so many Chinese immigrants, they had more strict immigration laws. The laws were that the immigrant had to either have a parent who was born in the U.S. or, they themselves had to be skilled workers. These new regulations caused a massive decrease in the Chinese population of America, in 1920 there were roughly 62,000 Chinese people in America.
