  • Nature characteristic that I have inherited from my ancestors (women) in particular is my domineering personality which leads to me being over protective of family and friends. Typically in a minority family it is matriarchal. However, in my family the women tend to be a bit too controlling which can cause friction in relationships with people if they are not use to this type of personality. When dealing with coworkers, friends, and or dating I had to learn how to let other’s lead and I follow. Typically in a minority family it is matriarchal. However, in my family the women tend to be a bit too controlling which can cause friction in relationships with people if they are not use to this type of personality. When dealing with coworkers, friends, and or dating I had to learn how to let other’s lead and I follow. I was so caught up in being the one that is always in control that I did not know how to let someone else have the final decision. Today I still have challenges of letting my domineering personality take over but I am learning to control it. Nurture characteristic that I have learned in my environment that was significant in my child hood development was participating in sports beginning in middle school. Sports taught me not to give up easily and to be persistent. In order to succeed you have to fail. One will never truly understand success until they have experience failure. I incorporate that into my education, goals, and lives daily obstacles. I wake up every day now knowing today will not be like yesterday, it will be different. Today could be good or not so good but it can only get bad depending on how I respond or react to the not so good part of it. Urie Bronfenbrenner Model Microsystem: My childhood environment was excellent! My family was raised in a middle class neighborhood. My social interaction took place within my neighborhood in which I learned so much, whether it was good or bad. When I am mentoring and or counseling my kids (clients) I reference a lot to my upbringing within my neighborhood and what it taught me. Mesosystem: My childhood experiences in the home and school were linked together. My parents built an excellent relationship with the teachers, school, and other parents. I remember when my friends and I got into trouble at school and the librarian whooped the other girls and told me I would get mine when I got home. My parents would know everything that happen at school by time we made it home. Today the communication between the schools and parents is cracked. Many parents don’t have a clue what is going on at their children(s) school. Exosystem: The system did not affect my childhood much. My mother worked the morning shift and my father worked the night shift so someone was always home. When my father began to work two jobs my siblings and I were older so we would look after each other. My childhood was as healthy as it could be. I don’t believe any family is perfect and a mine definitely was not but it was not horrible either. I was lucky to have both parents in the home that worked and loved and cared for their children. Macro system: My family would be considered “Middle Class”. My parents were in the home and had eight children. We were taught to look after each other in the home, school, neighborhood, and other public settings. My family was not raised in the church. We did attend church occasionally with our grandmother and friends family. My parents instilled morals and values into each of us and allowed us to make our own decisions regarding religion when we were ready. Chromsystem: Changes in environment affected us when our older two siblings went off to college. My parents have eight children and the oldest would care for us when our parents were working. So, when she left it almost felt as if we were losing a parent. I was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at Deaconess Hospital April 29th 1985 at 9:56pm. My mother stated that she was in labor for less than eight hours with me and remained in the hospital for three days. My first words were “Dada”. My mother stated I did not have a favorite toy but I was on the bottle until I was two years old. My mother stated that she never had to tell me when to take a nap or get ready for bed. When I was tired I would find my pillow and blanket and go to bed. I do recall my parents and older siblings sing my name to me as I would fall asleep which is “Therese Michaela”. I song that my mother created and sung for me when I was born. less
