FC: Weapons and Armor of Medieval Knights | David Kachelries Maclean Repman Darren Dreas | Written By:
Our topic is Medieval Knight's weapons and armor. Many weapons were better than others. Some weapons were better for offending your enemy and others were better for attacking the enemy. Our mix book will discus what weapons were used how they work and what they were used for, so sit back and enjoy our presentation.
Siege weapons | BALLISTA | CATAPULT | Looking down on a catapult.
A ballista is a large bow and arrow used for shooting long distances. The ballista took 4-5 knights/soldiers to handle its massive weaponry. This is used for knocking down manor walls. A catapult fired a large stone or several stones. To fire the catapult the knights/soldiers would pull back on the cup, load, and then release. | Many times siege weapons were either manned or commanded by the knights.
Horse Back Weapons | Weapon-pole Axe | What it is- Long wooden shaft with an Axe on one side. There was a blunt striking end on the other. this was used for speeding through the battle fields and taking off limbs. | Weapon-Lance | What it is- The lance is a weapon used for knocking others off their horses. jousting usually takes place at medieval carnivals.
Knights Will | Things I own: | Armor (shield, helmet, iron suit) Double bladed sword My noble stead Duke My dagger My short ax Horses armor (shield, lance and horse shoes) My property | My wealth
On footWeapons | Double Bladed Sword | Wheel Lock Pistol
The double blade sword is the knights most favored weapon. At the end of the sword there was a metal pommel that balanced out the sword. The sword was double bladed because in action they did not want to have to turn there sword back the other way so the blade faced down. This way if the sword got knocked out of your hand if you went to pick it up it wouldn't matter what side you would hit with. | The wheel lock pistol was one of the first guns ever made. The knights used a key to turn a wheel that cocked back the hammer then added the black powder and pulled the trigger. This gun was owned by the upper class, but took a long time to reload. It was not top choice of weapon for an on foot knight. | DOUBLE BLADED SWORD | WHEEL LOCK PISTOL
Knight's Armor | Armor was used to protect the knights vital organs and most of there body. The cost of a well made armor is equivalent to a three bedroom house now a days. The under layer of armor is chain mail. Chain mail is several chain links welded together making it very strong. The outer layer of armor consisted of steel plates covering the torso and limbs. On the joints there were hinges made out of steel. A helmet was formed to fit the knight's head. The shield was also a part of the
armor. The shield was made of wood or a mixture of light metals. The knight's armor weighed between 70-120 pounds. | chain mail | steel armor | Chain Mail
I William the knight want my body cremated. I would like my family to spread my ashes over the battle field I died at. I want my money to go to my family to live a better life. I want my steel armored suit to go to my son in case god forbid he has to go into to war against the non-believers. My horse Duke needs to go tho my son to use in battle. I want my double bladed sword, dagger and my short ax to go to my son. I'm sorry you had to read this but i am in good hands now. Love You. | What Shall Happen When I Die
