2: PROMETHEUS the Titan god of wisdom and counsel was in charge with making mankind out of clay. His attempts to make lives of his creation's better got him into conflict with Zeus. He tricked the gods out of the sacrificial feast, giving the meat for mans feast. Then, when Zeus withheld fire, he took it from heaven and sent it to mortal kind hiding inside a fennel-stalk. As punishment for the rebellious acts, Zeus commanded the creation of Pandora (the first woman) as a means to envoy misfortune into the house of man, or as a way to cheat mankind of the company of the good spirits. Prometheus meanwhile, was arrested and tied to a stake on Mount Kaukasos where an eagle was sent to feed upon his regenerating liver (or, some say, heart). Generations later a great hero Herakles came along and released the old Titan from torture.
