S: Life of Mondo the wooly mammoth
We Dedicate this to the Weston school students and Mrs Kurzius
Hi! I'm Mondo the Mammoth! I'm here to tell you some facts about my type of animal.
To start, I'm from the Kingdom Animalia. A Kingdom describes what you are.
I'm in the Phylum of Chordata. A Phylum is a category that places all the animals with the same body structure together.
My Class is Mammalia. A class is another category that groups together all the same creatures or bacteria in the world.
My Order is Proboscidea. Order is the same thing as Class, but the categories are smaller. | I'm in the family of Elephantidae. That means I have cousins and aunts and uncles that are elephants!
Mammuthus is my Genus name. A Genus is like a family, but the categories it's in is smaller and
My Species is Primigenius. A Species is the type of animal one is, but there are fancy names for it.
Normal Mammoth's are between 9 and 10 feet tall. | Then there are dwarf Mammoth's are between 6 and almost 8 feet.
Our weight is usually 12,00 to 20,00 pounds, which is 9 tons.
We are really fit because we walk everywhere. | We walk from Europe and Asia, all the way to where you live now!
And we live in places where it is really cold.
We don't eat animals, we only eat grass with our trunks. Also, we ate flowers.
Animals were basically our best friends, and we didn't hurt each other unless we got threatened by them.
We were normally found here, but up north more. We were also from Northern Eurasia and Siberia, too.
You can't find us there anymore, because we are extinct! That means we're not alive anymore.
We were usually gray like an elephant, but with brown fur on us like a dog or cat.
We disappeared about 10,000 years ago! That's a really long time.
We have tusks just like elephants! They are 16 feet long, that's about7 or 8 more of you.
Our tusks that we have are also 208 pounds! That's way more than you would weigh.
We don't use our tusks for much, but when it snows, they're our shovels. | We need to move the snow out of our way, so that's what we use to move it.
Well, that's all the fact I have for you about me!
I hope you like me and my family!
