2: It was May 27 in the year 1889 when I had to leave my home in Poland. I was headed to America for a better life. May 27 was supposed to be my special day. My eighth birthday. My parents said that going to America would be a good thing. But I don’t see how it could be a good thing if I had to leave mother behind. My dad, my brother, my sister, and I would be attending the trip. Taking a long trip across water was not exactly how I wanted to spend my birthday. Also leaving my friends and my school was not in my agenda. But what had to be done had to be done. So today I guess I had to go to America. I threw all my stuff into the one and only bag I was aloud to bring. There were so many things I wanted to bring but I couldn't. I only brought what I needed to survive.

4: As my family and I left our tiny house there were tears coming out of every eye. I tried to stay strong as we drove away from our house with my mom in the doorway. When we got to the boarding area of the ship I got nervous. Could the boat sink? Would I get sea sick? I hopped on board and squished into many people as tried to find a spot for me to stand. Finally the boat left the dock and we started our journey. We were on the boat for what felt like forever. I was losing hope that I was ever going to see land again. Finally I saw something in the distance. Could it be? Could it be Ellis Island? But no it was a giant whale. I was disappointed I really wanted to get there all ready. That night I couldn’t sleep. I was to anxious. Finally I spotted land! I was the first to see the beautiful, green Statue of Liberty!

6: When we arrived I thought that not everyone was treated fairly. If they had a small problem or issue they were sent back on the boat. I was scared because my dad had a bad back and was struggling to get up the stairs. Lucky for me no one noticed and we all made it through! I was thrilled! We finally got to be in America. The place that I had so many good things about. But Oh My God the lines were so long. We had to sigh up to be a “member” of America. Then we had to give in our old money for this funny looking paper with peoples faces on it. I’ve heard that since I’m now in America I will have a better education and I will be more successful in life. I can’t wait to get my new life started!

8: When I heard the news that mother was coming I freaked. I was so happy. I was 18 years old now and has been exactly 10 years since I ever saw mother. I stood waiting at the "kissing post" where I hoped to see mother for the first time in forever. I waited and waited but she never came. I was worried. Did mother not past the test? Did she get sent home? Mother was really healthy and I didn't see why she would not past the test. My dad saw me getting worried so he put his arms around me. Finally I heard the familiar soft sweet voice. I turned. Then right there I saw mother. I hugged my mom and I was so happy. I was never happier in my life. I told my mom all the new things that i have learned in America. I also told her that there was new foods that we could try. The last thing I told her is that I Love You!
