1: A Photographic Memory | Ninghan Station

2: For thousands of years these wide open lands served as a meeting and ceremonial place for Badimaya, Nyoongar, Yamatji and Wongai peoples, with the locals trading balga gum for spearheads and ochre from outlying country. One of the culturally significant sites is Warrdagga Rock. European settlement in Western Australia, particularly the shepherds and pastoralists changed the ways this land was used, but it's natural beauty still remains. The dry summers, flash rain storms that pass through leading to the cooler winter months with its showers bring out the colour and the vibrancy of the landscape. Its subtleties, contrasts and vividness enable countless generations to stand in awe to appreciate the beauty in a place of harsh sun and searing heat. Ninghan Station has been visited by the John Calvin Christian College since 1995 and together with the Albany John Calvin School since 2000 as they are drawn to the camping grounds of Warrdagga Rock. Each year a new group of year 9 students, teachers and support crew have visited and soaked up the atmosphere and mystique of this place taking away memories that last a lifetime. This photo book is an attempt to capture some of the images that live in the minds of many who have been. Our deep gratitude is extended to the traditional owners of this land, now managed under an Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) by the Pindiddy Aboriginal Corporation, to have been privileged to visit for so long and to establish deep roots of connection to this place. Special thanks go to Mr Don and Leah Bell who have been accommodating of the college for many years. Their wiliness to share the land with the college and countless others who visit this region have given many the opportunity to make connections with this place called Ninghan. A big thank you goes to all the cooks, roustabouts, parents and teachers who over the years have helped to make the Warrdagga experience so memorable. The photographs in this collection have been the result of many individuals. A special photo shoot was organised for 2012 to visit part of Ninghan Station that are not normally visited by the school students. We hope that these images will inspire you and bring back the memories of the times on Warrdagga Rock or under the stars on Ninghan Station. 2012 | With thanks to the following Photographers: Photographers of 2012: Mr Richard Allingham Justine Wagenaar Mr Gordon de Snoo Miriam de Vos Chevaunne Plug Neilson Bruning Emily Houweling Shania Dekker Jessica de Vos Shannon ten Haaf Jessica Jongeling Jordan Brolsma | With thanks also to: Mrs Aimee de Haan Evelyn van der Lecq Miss Hillie Bron Hamish Swarts Mr Marius Bruning Mr Peter de Jonge
