About Me... | This is my 9th year teaching. One of those years I spent as a substitute teacher. I taught 4 years in first grade and this is my 4th year in Kindergarten. I love all sports, especially football, so you may find me glued to ESPN during the weekends throughout the year. :) I am excited to be your child's teacher. We will grow as a family of learners and I will help your child become the best person he or she can be. I look forward to getting to know you and your child this year.!
Arrival, absences, and dismissal We begin our day at 8:00- students should arrive between 7:30 and 8:00. Please remind your child to eat breakfast before coming to class. Breakfast is FREE for all students. If your child arrives after 8am, please obtain a tardy slip from the office. If your child is sick or you know that he or she will not be at school, please contact the front office to report the absence.
Transportation A change in your child's transportation must be in writing. If no written note is received, your child will be sent home by his/her usual method of transportation. Please do not email me a change of transportation as I do not always get to email during breaks. | Dismissal begins at 2:10. No student will be allowed to be signed out after 1:45pm. You will have to wait until the dismissal bell rings to pick up your child if you cannot make it before that time.
Birthdays You may send in treats to celebrate your child’s birthday during our lunch time 11:40-12:10pm. All treats must be store bought and NOT homemade. | Please check your child's binder nightly and sign. Any papers that need to go home will be in the front of the binder.
Homework Your child has a homework folder that is sent home every Monday. Inside the folder you will find a work packet for the week. Word Study is to be done on the new star/sight words ONLY. Students must choose 2 activities from the list. My students are expected to be able to read and write these words. Handwriting homework needs to be done just as neat at home as it is taught in class. Your child should be saying the strokes as they write. They need to write only FIVE letters per row. Save this part until Wednesday or Thursday. Math Workbooks will be sent home soon to use for math homework. Please tear out the pages listed in the packet. Counters can be any item used for counting such as buttons, cereals, m &m’s, beans, etc. Homework tools: glue, scissors, crayons, pencil, paper Homework is an expectation on the report card.
Conferences We will have at least 2 conferences during the school year to discuss your child's progress. If you would like to schedule a conference at any other time during the year, please feel free to call, email, or send a note.
Kindergarten Curriculum Our curriculum is the Common Core Sunshine State Standards (CCSSS)! We use many different tools to teach these standards. (textbooks, games, journals, hands on activities, etc.) To find the Kindergarten CCSS you can look online at: http://www.floridastandards.org/homepage/index.aspx Click on Common Core Standards to browse. Increase in RIGOR! High Expectations!
Support the school PTA and volunteers are always welcomed in classroom and school. | Assessments include formal and informal tests and teacher observations. | Library books are due every Tuesday Students may choose a new book at our next library special.
 * McDonald Elementary has developed some school rules that remain consistent no matter where your child is on campus. I use the same exact rules in the classroom. Please review them with your child. * All teachers distribute Golden Tickets†when they see kids following the rules and making good choices.
