Everyone has a right to peaceful coexistence, the basic personal freedoms, the alleviation of suffering, and the opportunity to lead a productive life... Jimmy Carter | The American Dream | Equal Opportunities for All

The American Dream is a goal that all citizens of the United States strive to accomplish. Our founding fathers made it a point to make America a place that provides basic freedoms and great opportunities for all of its citizens. I personally believe that this quote is a great representation of what this country stands for. Not only is America a place where its people can believe in what they want to, but it is a safe place that gives everyone equal opportunities. I feel that we should be guaranteed these rights so that everyone can live successful lives, as well as, fulfill all of our dreams.

Colonial Literature | If God should withdraw His hand, they would avail no more to keep you from falling, than the this air to hold up a person that is suspended in it. | The Powers of His Hands | Jonathan Edwards (from Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God)

I have a strong affiliation with God. However, I do not feel that this quote is a good representation of God's thinking of people. This quote shows that God is the almighty power and is the only person keeping one from going to Hell. Yes, God is extremely powerful and has the ability to do anything He wants to us, however, I don't think that if one does something wrong, then He will send you to Hell. If God is the superior power who He is believed to be, He will give second chances and allow people to make some mistakes and still go to Heaven.

The Crucible | More Weight Giles Corey (From The Crucible) | An Honorable Death | Arthur Miller

Giles Corey is a character who will not lie about witchcraft, even if it costs him his life. In The Crucible, many of the characters admit to witchcraft even though they are innocent of it. However, I like this quote because Corey was the only one who did not confess to it even though he knew he would die. Personally, I respect him for doing this because it proves that he is an honorable man and will die doing what is right. If I were in Corey's situation, I am not sure what if I could do what he did. Two simple words caused a large reaction in the town and caused many people to think about what they were doing to innocent people.

Arthur Miller's "Why I Wrote The Crucible" | Generation to Generation | What terrifies one generation is likely to bring only a puzzled smile to the next... Arthur Miller

Throughout a person's lifetime, he or she will see many different generations come and go. This quote shows the significance of how these generations change. Dialogue changes, fashions come and go, and even the social norms are altered. Many people come to accept these changes but not all are able to do so. Some actions terrify people and these same actions may bring joy to others. Change is inevitable...even if one accepts it or not.

Benjamin Franklin's The Autobiography | “...and that the contrary habits must be broken, and good ones acquired and established, before we can have any dependence on a steady, uniform rectitude of conduct.” Benjamin Franklin | The Breaking of Bad Habits

Benjamin Franklin was a very influential and intelligent man. This quote proves how he felt it was necessary to get rid of one's bad habits in order to better oneself in life. I find that this is very true because I have also experienced this. In order to become better as a person, I have had to break my bad habits in order to form better ones. The diminishing of bad habits is essential for one to move forward in life.

Nature | by Longfellow | So nature deals with us, and takes away our playing things one by one Longfellow | Let Nature Lead Me

Nature is a very powerful thing. In a matter of seconds, it can go from a beautiful day to a treacherous storm. Nature's cycles mirrors the cycles of life. Slowly, nature takes away the things we love but we learn to cope with the changes it brings upon us. I completely agree with this quote. Throughout my life, I have been through many different changes; some good, some bad, and it has made me into a better person. This relates to nature because it shows how nature brings upon different changes that mirror the situations that humans go through.

William Cullen Bryant's Thanatopsis | Go fourth, under the open sky, and list to nature's teaching, while from all around--comes a still voice-- Bryant

Mother Nature can teach us various things. I think that all people should live in the moment and take every second for what it's worth. In life, everyone always rushes to get things done and move on to the next item on their "to do" list. However, if we just took the time to sit down and relax, and just look up into the sky, maybe life wouldn't be so stressful. Life is short, so we should make it last while we can.

Longfellow's The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls | The little waves, with their soft, white hands, efface the footprints in the sands, and the tide rises, the tide falls. Longfellow

The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls describes the cycles of human life. As we grow up, we go through different situations. As these experiences occur, we remember the things that happened, however, the world around us forgets and continues to go on. This poem personifies the waves of the ocean to have soft, white hands. These hands represent the ongoing of life and how they erase our past. The effacing of footprints shows how as we die, nature goes on. I like this poem because it is a good representation of the way we must continue through life even when times are tough.

Born This Way | I'm beautiful in my way 'cause God makes no mistakes, I'm on the right track baby I was born this way. Don't hide yourself in regret just love yourself and your set, I'm on the right track baby I was born this way. Lady Gaga | Just Be Yourself

Although Lady Gaga is a controversial artist, many of her songs describe real situations that everyone goes through. This quote from "Born This Way," explains that everyone is perfect no matter what people say. Nowadays, a lot of people are pressured into being the "perfect" person. I like how this song says that you shouldn't be disappointed in who you are because everyone is fine just the way they are. Lady Gaga uses her songs to describe her life and this works well for her as an artist because not only can I relate to it, but so can many others as well.

Where is the Love- Black Eyed Peas | People killing, people dying, Children hurt and you hear them crying Can you practice what you preach And would you turn the other cheek Black Eyed Peas | Forgive and Forget

Nowadays, more and more people are involved in unnecessary violence. Sometimes there are things that happen in life that don't even matter. If people would just stop and look at what they're life is turning in to, they would realize that most of the drama that occurs, really is small compared to other things in life. Some things may seem like "big deals" in the moment, but in the grand scheme of things, they really aren't. I think that if more of us listened to quotes like this, we would be able to turn our cheeks and focus on the important things that life has to offer such as friends and family...not violence and drama that causes pain to others.

Work it harder, Make it better, Do it Faster, Makes us Stronger Kanye West | Kanye West's Stronger | Strive for the Best

Throughout our lives, we are told to strive to do our best. This quote is a good life lesson because it shows just this. If you work towards your goals, you will become a better person and become more successful in life. During my lifetime, I have encountered some things that seem very tough that make me feel like I just can't ever do anything right. However, when I look back on them, they have just been experiences that have caused me to be a stronger person. This song is very inspiring because it shows that even when times are tough, we have to push through them and success will be the outcome.

I’d catch a grenade for ya Throw my hand on a blade for ya I’d jump in front of a train for ya You know I'd do anything for ya I would go through all this pain, Take a bullet straight through my brain, Yes, I would die for ya baby; But you won't do the same Bruno Mars | Bruno Mars' Grenade | Unappreciated

Sometimes in relationships, there is one person that feels stronger about the other. I think that when this happens, it puts a major strain on the relationship. All couples have their good times. However, this isn't always the case. I really like this song because it shows how much people care for others and that they are willing to do almost anything to keep them safe. Bruno Mars does a very good job at explaining this. Songs like this are very important for couples who are struggling with their relationships because they give them an out to express their feelings and let the other person know how they're feeling if they don't know how to say it themselves.

Tell me does she look at you the way I do, try to understand the words you say and the way you move? Does she get the same big rush when you go in for a hug and your cheeks brush? Tell me am I crazy or is this more than crush? He is We | Blame it on the Rain- He is We | Wanting What You Can't Have

Every girl has that one guy that she wants but she knows she can't have. This song describes those feelings. I think that this song is a great representation of the relationship | struggles that many people go through during their adolescent years. Music that incorporates this topic is a good way for people to express themselves and let out any of their emotions that they may be feeling. As a teenager, I have experienced this feeling and it's nice to know that I am not the only one. Songs like "Blame it on the Rain," are exactly what people need who are struggling with relationships.
