FC: Coming to America By, Paul VanFossen
1: September 10, 1900 Leaving my home in Germany, I felt really sad. I took my clothes, my dads clothes and my favorite teddy bear. My dad was the only one coming to America with me. I left my sister and mom in Germany to take care of our dog. The one thing that I was mad about that I couldn't take with me was my great funny old time stories about the life of the famous people. I always had them read to me for my bed time story. Since we only were allowed to take one suitcase I packed stuff that I thought would help me live my life just to get money for my family, so they can pay bills better than they can. Just to take care of my family the one big thing that I need to do is come to America and get money so we can stay in the house we have in Germany. I felt that so we don't have to live on the streets with no money, food, water. So I thought that I should go to America and get some money to help my family out with bills for the house.

3: October 20, 1900 I started to pack my stuff up with my dad. We found the ship that takes the immigrants to America. Then we waited in this long line with about 400,000 people to board the ship. I was the last one in that line. We had to wait a couple of months just to board that ship. When I got on the ship it smelt like rotten eggs. First thing I said to my dad was “Can we go back home?” Then my dad said “No we cannot, because once we are on this ship we cannot get off.” So I started to cry. Then this one nice person I didn't know came over and said “There is no reason to cry because you're going to help your family. Then I said to him “You're right because I am going to help my family.” Then he said “here take this jug of water.” I took the jug of water so my dad and I can have something to drink. But we had no were that wasn't tight for us to sleep. Then I said to my dad “Can we sleep on the deck of the boat?” he then said “Yes.” When we got out on to the deck he said “Lets sleep on the starboard side of the boat.” When we got to the starboard side of the boat it was a perfect view. So I saw some sunken ships, so I asked my dad what ships they were he said “I don't know.” When we started to stop I asked “Why are we stopping?” The cap[tin said “ We are stopping because we ran out of gasoline. Then this big ship came with gasoline for the boat.

5: November 23, 1903 When we arrived at Ellis Island I saw the statue of liberty, people, and trash. When we got off of the ship we had to go through medical exams. Then since we had money from Germany we had to exchange money, so we got the amount of money we had in from Germany in American money. When we got the money in American money it looked so much different the money from Germany. Since I was sick I had to stay on the island for a couple of days. On that Island there was a lot of kids my age. When I started to feel better my dad came and got me and took me where he was staying while I was on that Island. Then my dad found a job. He was getting paid 32,000 in a month so Instead of going back to our house in Germany my dad called my mom and said “Come to America now we are going to live here the rest of our lives.” Then my sister and mom packed there suitcase and came over to where me and my dad are. My mom then found a job that was paying her 50,000 dollars for one month. Then after how we did on getting and finding a job that paid enough money for us to live in America made my whole family happy.
