1: Hawaii's Last Queen

2: Lili'uokalani was born September 2nd 1838 in Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii to Caesar Kapa‘akea and Anale‘a Keohoklole, two high ranking chiefs.

3: She was given the name Lydia Lili‘u Loloku Walania Wewehi Kamaka‘eha. When she was younger she was called "Lydia" or "Lili‘u" and then became "Lili‘uokalani" .

4: Lili'uokalani was married on September 16, 1862 to John O. Dominis, a foreigner. He died soon after she took the throne.

5: Lili'uokalani's brother, King Kalakuana, passed away in 1891 and she ascends to the throne.

6: Sugar planters and businessmen pressured Queen Lili'uokalani to yield her throne on January 17, 1893.

7: In 1895, former queen Lili'uokalani was imprisoned at Ioni Palace for allegedly possesing knowledge about an attempted revolt by her supporters.

8: Queen Lili'uokalani was released on parole after 8 months and forbidden to leave Oahu.

9: Against her wishes, President McKinley annexed Hawaii to the United States on July 7, 1898,

10: Queen Lili'uokalani passed away on November 11, 1917, at the age of 79.

11: She entrusted her estate to orphaned and destitute children of Hawaii. She is honored today through the Queen Lili'uokalani Children's Center.
