4: He coined the word cell and used it to describe the units of plant tissue. | Hooke was an English scientist called the father of microscopy. | Robert Hooke | He observed plant tissue divided by cell walls, but he didn't see organelles since the cells were dead.

5: Schwann was a German biologist and the founder of modern Histology, or the study of living (plant and animal) tissues. | He discovered that animals also have cells and stated that all living things are composed of cells. | Theodor Schwann | He also discovered pepsin.

6: Mattias Schlieden | Schlieden was a German botonist who declared the cell the basic unit of all plant matter. | His statement was the first generalization about cells.

7: Virchow was a prominent German scientist of his time. | Rudolph Virchow | He used the cell theory to explain the effects of disease on organs and tissues in the body.

8: Eukaryotic | Eukaryotes have a nucleus and membrane bound organelles. Plant and animal cells are eukaryotic.

9: Prokaryotic | Prokaryotes have no nucleus or membrane bound organelles. Bacteria are prokaryotes.Most are unicellular.

10: Plant | have all of the same components of an animal cell, but they also have a rigid cell well, large vacuole, and chloroplast.

11: Animal | have a cell membrane, vacuole, nucleus, nucleolus, smooth ER, rough ER, ribosomes, Golgi apparatus, and lysosomes.

12: Cell structures | Golgi apparatus processes and packages proteins after their synthesis and before they make their way to their destination.

13: The nucleus contains DNA, the hereditary material of the cell. | Ribosomes build the amino acid chain.

14: Cell structures | Lysosomes contain digestive enzymes used for digestion and removal of worn-out organelles and food particles. It also engulfs viruses and bacteria.

15: Rough ER packages proteins. Some of those proteins are used in the cell and some are sent out. Ribosomes are attached to it. | Smooth ER acts as a storage organelle. It is important in the creation and storage of steroids.

16: Mitochondria produces energy, in the form of ATP. The cell uses this energy to work. | The cell wall is a structure that is present in plant cells and surrounds the cell membrane. This is a special feature which helps distinguish plant cells from animal cells.

17: Cell Structures | The cytoplasm fills the interior of the cell. The cytoplasm holds the cell organelles. | Chloroplast produces food for the cell. They are only found in plant cells and some protists.

18: The cell membrane is present in all cells and is a flexible lipid bi-layer. It acts as the barrier between the inside and outside of the cell. | This allows the environments of the two sides to be different. It also regulates transport and provides a passage for certain molecules.
