"About Me" Hi, My Name is Jean Louise Finch, but most people call me Scout. I live in Maycomb County, Alabama with my father Atticus and my brother Jem. | Our mother died when we were young, although we still have a mother figure around the house, her name is Calpurnia. She is an african american and she works around the house cooking and cleaning. If we did not have Calpurnia our family would have a hard time functioning.
My best friend is Charles Baker Dill Harris, but we just call him Dill. He comes to Maycomb every summer by train to play with us. He has a crush on me. When he would come over we would act out the life of Boo Radley, our scary neighbor down the street.
Jem Finch, my brother, is a very important person in my life. We were best friends and play together all the time when we were younger. Now he has grown up more and we are seeing greater differences between us as we get older; we still love each other and he is still a major part of my life.
Another important person in my life is my father, Atticus. He is a great father and teaches us important life lessons; for example, he taught us to put ourselves in other peoples shoes before making a judgment about someone.
I remember last Halloween, when Jem and I were walking home from a Halloween costume pageant. It was pitch black when we heard footsteps behind us, we were jumped by Mr. Ewell. Although we were saved by Boo Radley! For years I have wanted to see and meet Boo and I finally did! | EVENTS
Another important event in my life was the day when Atticus had to shoot down the mad dog. That was when I gained a lot of respect for him. Before that day he had said he hated guns and refused to even teach us how to use ours. He did that because he knew he had an unfair advantage at shooting over anyone or anything and only wanted to use it when the time was right.
This pocket watch was one of many gifts secretly given to us by Boo Radley through a knot hole in a tree. These gifts slowly made us realize that he wasn't the monster that we imagined he was, but as the actual person he was. | A | A R T I F A C T S
My second favorite artifact was the soap dolls made of Jem and I. Boo must have put some real time and work into them to make them look like us. It did seem a little weird to me at first, but i figured it was just a way of him telling us that they were for us and not someone else.
"Aunt Alexandra was fanatical on the subject of my attire. I could not possibly hope to be a lady if I wore breeches; when I said I couldn't do nothing in a dress, she said I wasn't supposed to be doing things that required pants"( Lee 108).
