About me! | My name is Esther Williams. I am 12 years old. My parents died of TB when I was 6 years old, so I was left with the Nanny. All my family's heritage money was used to build our farm so now we are very poor.
why am I going? | We have decided to catch a ship to Australia to look for gold because we are very poor, except we only have enough money for one of us to go, and that was me. It took us a week to earn the money. It was hard work trying to keep our livestock as healthy as possible, I had to wake up at 3:00 am every morning to feed the animals. The nanny was very sick so she couldn't really help on the farm that much. I wasn't that excited going away from Nanny especially when she was sick, she is all I have left, well I had to go if I wanted to earn at least a little bit of money to help us get back on our feet.
Where are we going? | I am heading to Ballarat in Victoria, Australia. Before I left I had to buy a ticket. I had a little light of hope in me that maybe I will find some gold and help Nanny and I get back on our feet.
Arriving | When I arrived I was VERY confused until I met a very kind lady by the name of Genny Scott. he was from Wales and I was very delighted because I had never met any one from Wales before.Genny said that Alluvial Gold was the best so I chose to dig for alluvial gold. but before I started Genny helped me and lent me some money to go buy some tools something called a permit. she claims that if you do not have a permit you can not keep the gold, I found that appalling, why can't you just keep it?. well just in case I went and bought this so called permit and all my tool for alluvial gold which were: a shovel, pan or cradle and a panning dish. | I was so glad to get off the ship because the trip was horrid due two poor weather. I felt so dizzy that I was going to spew. well at least the trip is over now so I can find some GOLD!!!!!!
! | Getting started! ! | When I arrived at the lake IT WAS CROUDED. There were millions of people searching for that one piece of gold that could change their life forever. I unpacked my bags and set up a tent that mother and father gave me on my 5th birthday. I had mixed emotions at the time I couldn't tell if I was excited or scared to be honest I would say it was a mix between both.
I was panning for gold when these two men came up to me. one of them was talking to me and distracting me while the other stole my tools and the piece of gold that took me 3 months to find. I started screaming and yelling help until one of them held a gun at my head, I was instantly quiet he then asked for my money and my permit which i no choice but to give other wise he would shoot me. Thats when the criminal side of me came into action. I had no money so I stole others, I snuck into the tools shop to steal some tools except I just happened to bump into a police officer. From the tools shop I was taken into jail because I did not have the money to pay for a fine I stayed in there for 6 years and got out when I was 18. | THIEVES | THIEVES | THIEVES
I Met a kind man. he asked me to marry him and I said YES | I was looking for some Gold when I met a kind man. He asked me to marry him a week later, he looked wealthy and I was desperate so I said YES. I noticed a day or two later that he was a very kind man so at this point I was willing to spend the rest of my life with him.
WE FOUND GOLD AND MOVED TO AMERICA. WE BECAME ONE OF THE MOST WEALTHY PEOPLE IN AMERICA. MY HUSBAND, JAMES INVENTED THE TELEPHONE AND I AM A SCHOOL TEACHER. WE ARE A VERY LUCKY COUPLE TO OF GONE FROM UNWEALTHY TO WEALTHY AND I AM VERY GRATEFUL.
