1: History of Solar Energy | In 1767, a Swiss scientist named Horace de Saussure created the first solar collector. In 1839, a French scientist named Edmund Becquerel discovered the photovoltaic effect while experimenting with an electrolyte cell that was dipped in an electricity-conducting solution. The generation or electricity increased when the solution was exposed to light. In 1954, photovoltaic technology is created in the United States when Daryl Chapin, Calvin Fuller, and Gerald Pearso invent the silicon photovoltaic cell at Bell Labs. In 1972, the Institute of Energy Conversion is established at the University of Delaware and they research and develop the thin-filmed phovoltaic cell. In 2000, First Solar begins production at the world's largest photovoltaic manufacturing plant.
2: Advantages of Solar Energy | The Advantages of Solar Energy: 1. Solar panels don't give off pollution when they are producing energy. 2. The cost of the solar panels becomes a small price to pay compared to the savings on the electricity bill. 3. The energy source is renewable. 4. Solar energy can be used to bring power to rural parts of the Earth easier. 5. We have the ability to save the energy solar panels create.
3: Disadvantages of Solar Energy | Although the advantages of solar energy than disadvantages, the few disadvantages of this type of energy include: | 1. The cost of the equipment used to create solar energy is more expensive than that of fossil fuels, however the cost is lowering. 2. It requires a lot of space to harness solar energy. This can be a disadvantage in places where space is not readily available. 3. Pollution can effect the efficiency of photovoltaic cells (the cells that are used to turn light into electrical energy). This mostly effects older solar equipment. Newer equipment uses technology that solves the worst of these effects. 4. Solar energy cannot be harnessed at night. 5. The location of the panels can effect their ability to absorb energy.
4: The Mass Production of Solar Energy | Solar energy is the Earth's most abundant source of energy. It is capable of providing more than enough of the energy that is currently in demand. It can provide two types of energy: thermal and electric. This makes it beneficial to different regions. The colder regions near the poles can use the sun to harness heat, and the arid regions, where the sun beats down consistently, can use the sun to provide them with electricity. In fact, developing countries in places like the Middle East and Africa are where solar energy has the most demand. Since the cost of solar equipment is lowering it will become easier for those countries and the others that follow to mass produce solar energy. Therefore, I believe solar energy has a high potential of mass producing.
