BC: The depression was one of the worst times in our history, i never want to see our country go through it again.
One of the main reasons for the great depression was the Stock market crash that happened on October 29,1929 With this happening banks failed! It Just became one big mess. | Speaking of messes another thing was business's began to fail, and so the government made the Smoot-Hawley treaty to protect us. That also failed.
During the depression so many people lost their jobs. Due to this fact in these pictures these are lines of mostly men, and some women looking and hoping for any job to be had. many people were able to collect unemployment, which can only go so far. | of people waiting to get a interview. Or hoping to be put out for small jobs. So many people were affected by this, mostly those who had saving in bank, or a business. But overall everyone was affected.
So many people with losing their jobs needed to either move or downsize. Most people lived in nothing more than cardboard, and what ever they could find. | There were those few who were able to keep their homes in tact, but for most they had to leave what they knew and loved .
During the depression colored people had an even harder time than we did. They had even more limited jobs, and limited places they could go. We always say how hard it was on us as white people, but we were the lucky ones. be grateful.
Everyone who was living during these these years of 1929-41 was affected by this tragedy. The children's faces break my heart. | Many times their would be dust storms, These storms were brutal. The parents did all they could to hide their kids from these storms.
This At the bottom is the inside. Its from 1941. So its not quite from the depression, but it was from the war right after it. Just wanted to add a little bit of personal info in my book. | This is a sugar ration book my grandma kept from the war right after the great depression. This is the out side of it.
The depression that lasted for almost 10 years 1930-39, was just terrible. It was a time of despair. | So many times it was so hard to find food. My Grandma, said that every morning they had milk and mush but her sister Ruth lied and said it made her sick so she could have an egg. Makes me laugh today.
For some men they were lucky enough to find work. Where do you ask? | In places called pea farms. Men were able to put down their pride and work at a pea farm.
The depression finally ended with talk of war. To the left is a picture of men and women Dr's/ nurses. | To my right is men on their way to find work. Leaving the depression behind forever.
