12: The Chinese Cinderella; Picture Meanings Pg 1: Adeline Men Yah. Author of The Chinese Cinderella Pg 2&3: Grim Reaper, Bound foot and a bullied kid. This symbolizes that when Adeline was born her mother died, eventually Adeline's grandmother passes away also, and her grandmother was raised in the generation when bound feet were considered attractive. Adeline was always bullied by her older siblings. Pg. 4&5: Abandoned shopping cart, Rickshaw puller, and Shanghai. In the city of Shanghai Adeline's Rickshaw puller and her parents forget to pick her up after school, Adeline was wondering around the crowded streets of Shanghai. She was abandoned like a lost shopping cart.

13: Pg. 6&7: Boarding school, Broken heart, Communism, Sing sibling child, evil stepmother, and Tianjin. Adeline gets sent to a boarding school in Tianjin, and because of communism, she becomes the only child from her family at her school. Adeline hides from her class mates, that she is an unloved child, and that her evil stepmother sent her to that boarding school. Pg. 7&8: Bullied kid, Big and little sister hugging, and Hong Kong. Niang's (Adeline's stepmother) sister comes and takes care of Adeline for the time being. Adeline is then sent to another Boarding school in Hong Kong, where she is quickly teased. Pg. 10: A pencil being bounced back and forth. Adeline wins a competition for writing a play, to which her dad is very impressed and sends her off to boarding school with all of their other siblings. Adeline quickly realizes that if she keeps up her good work then, she will go every where she wants, and needs to be!
