BC: Joe DiMaggio was a famous baseball player for the New York Yankees. Santiago has a hero in the story, and it was DiMaggio, he looked up to him and had faith in DiMaggio and the Yankees. Baseball is a big part of The Old Man and The Sea, it gave Santiago something to think about as he is trying to real in his biggest catch yet. Santiago would go on and on about DiMaggio, and how he would love to take him fishing. Santiago would start talking about all the teams of baseball not just the New York Yankees but also the Chicago White Sox, and what to look out for from all of those teams, and how they are doing that season. Santiago would tell his friend Manolin, who has been fishing with him since he was a boy, to fear the White sox of Chicago, and the Reds this year. Baseball was a big part in keeping Santiago's head straight, and mind from wondering off. He had to stay focus on the biggest catch of his life, baseball and the strength he had and the love for it got him through the night.

3: Novembor 25 1914 - March 8 1999 Was a American baseball player for the New York Yankees. In 1955 Joe was placed in the baseball Hall of Fame. DiMaggio was a 3 time MVP, and a 13-time All Star. He was the only player to be selected every season that he played.

4: At the time of his retirement, he had the fifth-most career homerooms (361). He also had the sixth- highest slugging percentage, which was (.579) in history. He was well known for his 56-game hitting streak. (May 15-July 16 ,1941) his record still stands today.

7: 1969 poll conducted to coincide with the centennial of baseball, they voted him the sport's greatest living player of all time. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1955. A couple years earlier on December 11, 1951. He was the first player to break $100,000 in earnings.

8: Marilyn Monroe was married to the great DiMaggio, on January 14, 1954 were they eloped at San Francisco City Hall. They were rumored to have a rocky marriage from the start. There was incidences were the couple were to have "yelling Battles". After 274 days after the wedding Marilyn Monroe filed for divorce on grounds of mental cruelty. After the alleged marriage, Joe DiMaggio was rumored to have been seen with 1957 Miss American Marian McKnight, but Joe never agreed with the allegation. Since then he was rumored to see other women, but he never publicly came out stating if they were true. August 1, 1962 Joe asked Monroe to remarry him, due to how people he felt detrimental her well-being. But August 5 Marilyn Monroe was found died, due to suicide. After her death Joe DiMaggio took responsibility for Marilyn by claiming her body, and arranged her a funeral. Joe DiMaggio never remarried again.

His first debt was May, 3 1936 for the New York Yankees. His last debt was September 30, 1951 for the New York Yankees. 13: The Chicago White Sox is a major league baseball team, in Chicago, Illinois. The White Sox play in the American League's Central Division since 1991. The White Sox played in U.S. Cellular Field, which was originally named Comiskey Park.

14: The White Sox are one of two teams that play in Chicago, Illinois. The other team in called the Chicago Cubs, which play in the National League. The White Socks last world Series was 2005 which they won against the Houston Astros.

17: The Chicago team was established as a mayor league baseball club in 1901, which at that time period was called the Chicago White Stockings. Then after that the named was shorten due to the fact that the paper would shorten it to Sox, so they decided to change the name to Chicago White Sox. At the time they played there first game at South Side Park, but in 1901 they moved to the historic Comiskey Park, where they would play for eight decades.

18: In 1917 the Chicago White Sox roared through the American League, with a recored of 100 wins and 54 loses. It is still a franchise record. That year the White Sox took a world series championship away from the New York Giants. It was a good year with a lot of new faces and new players that brought a new strength to the game like Eddie Collins who was the hitting hero of that day with a .409.

21: Founded: 1883, as the Sioux City, Iowa franchise, which was in the minor Western League, then it was moved to the Saint Paul, Minnesota in 1895, then to where they are now, in Chicago, they have been here since 1900, which was in the American league, and then the major league in 1901.
