3: John Steinbeck was born in Salinas California in 1902. His fist few books were failures but his first success was Tortilla Flat. His greatest masterpiece was The Grapes of Wrath, which won the Pultzier Price in 1940.Steinbeck has written many novels that relate to the past and present. He was the sixth American to win the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1962. At the age of 65 John Steinbeck died in his home in new York City.
4: This is Kino"s house in the outskirts of La Paz Mexico. | This is the Doctors house in La Paz Mexico. His house is more refined than Kino"s hut .

8: chapter 1 In the beginning of The Pearl Kino awakes in the dark beside his wife Juana and his sleeping son Coyotito. He listens to the song of the family.He and Juana eat their breakfast while the song of evil begins to play because a scorpion is crawling beside Coyotito in his makeshift crib. After the scorpion stings him Juana sucks the venom out. She is worried so she wants to go to the doctor. Most of the village comes with them as the go to the doctors house. The doctor refuses to see them.
9: chapter 2 | chapter two begins with a description of the canoes and where the town is located. The text says that the people near the gulf cannot always trust their eyes because of the mirages. Juana and Kino come to the beach to find a pearl so that they can use it to pay for the doctors services. They find the pearl of the world and the swelling immediately comes out of Coyotito's arm.
10: chapter 3 The town has heard of how Kino has found the pearl of the world. Everyone thinks of how the pearl would help them. Kino has awakened a darker side of La Paz. When asked what he will do with the pearl Kino says he will marry Juana, have new clothes, buy a harpoon and a rifle, and that Coyoitito will go to school. Juan wants to destroy the pearl but Kino doesn't listen.
11: Chapter 4 The city of La Paz knows that Kino is about to sell his pearl. Everyone knows it which stirs up a lot of excitement. When Kino and his family arrive at the dealers office there is hardly anyone left in town because they have come to witness this ordeal. Kino has the Pearl of the world but the dealers will only offer one thousand five hundred pesos. He refuses. Kino doesn't like strange places but he decides to travel to the capital to try to get a better price.Kino is attacked that night and Juana is convinced that the pearl is evil.
12: Chapter5 In the night Juana intends to throw the pearl away.Kino follows her and rescues the pearl. Instantly he is in a fight with darkness that results with a man dead in the underbrush. Juana has left to get Coyotito. When she arrives the place has been searched. Someone had set a fire that burns down Kino’s house. Kino’s canoe has been damaged as well. Juan Tomas offers Kino refuge for one day. Kino has decided that the pearl has become his soul.
13: chapter 5 In the night Juana intends to throw the pearl away. Kino follows her and rescues the pearl. Instantly he is in a fight with darkness that results with a dead man in the underbrush. Juana has left to get Coyotito. When she arrives the place has been searched. Someone had set a fire that burns down kino's house. Kino's canoe has been damaged as well. Juan Tomas offers Kino refuge for one night. Kino decides that the pearl has become his soul.
14: chapter 6 As Juan and Kino travel to the city they are followed by trackers. Kinno escapes into the mountains to distract them. as Juana enter the designated cave Kino makes a fake trail that the trackers will follow. That night kino tries to kill the men.he succeeds but coyotito is killed during the fight. Kino and Juana travel back home where they throw th pearl back into the ocean.
15: The moral of The Pearl is that we should appreciate what we have because it might disappear in an instant.
