We didn't start the fire | We didn't start the fire is a rock song, written and made by Billy Joel in 1980's. the song mentions people, places and things that changed the world from the 1950's to the 1980's.
In the beginning of the 1980’s the Palestine Liberation Army decided to enhance international recognition. After causing some political notability, they decided to do one of the biggest weaponry trades with the country of Syria. After further negotiation was over, on August 27th 1982 the Palestine Liberation Army sent 1500 troops and millions of dollars worth of weaponry from the country Beirut, having as their destination the country of Syria. To prevent additional problems crossing international borders the PLA (Palestine Liberation Army) had Italian troops escort them all the way to Syria. The troops were transported to Syria through land, which made it easier to transport all the weapons, tanks, artillery and mortars. | Palestine International weapon exchange
President Ronald Reagan Reagan was born on February 6th, 1911 in Tampico, Illinois. After he graduated from college in 1928, Ronald Reagan entered Eureka College, in Eureka Illinois. In college he majored sociology and economics. He also got the leading roles in many college plays and he was also the student body president. Both of those things became his careers in his life. From the time of late 1930’s to the late 1950’s Reagan had an active acting career, in his whole life time Reagan has been in about 50 movies. Reagan began his political career as governor of California in January 1967. As the governor of California he mainly worked on slowing the growth of government spending. Then in 1970 he was re-elected as the governor of California, and he served as the governor until 1975. Reagan later became a republican president of the U.S. in 1980 and he won the 1984 re-elections and served both his 4 year terms. Ronald Reagan was a successful president of the U.S. and also a great actor. He had many accomplishments, and I believe that he was in the “We didn’t start the Fire” because he shows how it’s possible to do whatever you are determined to do.
Terror on the Airlines In the mid 1980’s many terrorist groups, highjacked and bombed many airplanes. The first of this attacks occurred in June 14th 1985, by the Kashmiri terrorist group. Only nine days after that attack the Sikh and the Kashmiri terrorist group bombed an Air India plane on the Atlantic Ocean and an Air Canada plane was bombed on its way to India. These three attacks together killed over 303 people. Then and Achille Lauro trans-Atlantic was highjacked in October 7th of that same year. This attack was committed by a couple of PLF terrorist. When it happened the trans-Atlantic was in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea. The last airline terrorist attack of that year was in November 23rd an EgyptAir aircraft was highjacked on its way to Malta. This attack was from the Abu Nidal terrorism group. These last two attacks together killed one person and took more than 700 people hostages. These terrorist groups made this attacks because they wanted to get international attention from the citizens of the world. In fact the PLF terrorist that took the trans-Atlantic didn’t free the hostages until the Egyptian government offered their country as a safe haven.
Russian's in Afghanistan In 1978 to 1980 The Soviet Union wanted to re-strength their connections with the Middle East. After bribing government officials, a new (more communism government) took over that caused a lot of controversy inside and outside of Afghanistan. The problem was that this new government was supposedly against the teaching of Islam. This caused an outrage within the citizens of Afghanistan and also the people involved in the old government. Rebels started riots to try to overcome this new government. Because the U.S.S.R. knew about the strength the rebels had they sent troops into Afghanistan in the late 1980’s. Although the fight was uneven, because the Soviet troops had more equipment and more people, the rebels had a lot more fire-power which in the end was the key to their success. After a turnover in power, the U.S.S.R. started withdrawing their troops from Afghanistan in 1988. And after almost a decade of fighting, in 1989 all the Soviet troops had left Afghanistan and the communist government had lost its control in the country.
Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s reign in Iran Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini was the leader of the Islamic political party of Iran during the 1980’s. After the United Stated of America supported Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (previous leader or Iran) the Islamic’s party main objective was to cut all connections with the U.S. and raise the popularity of Islam. In 1979’s Khomeini’s men took hostage all the employees in the American Embassy in Tehran. This decision was the beginning of the end of America’s friendship with Iran. Also talks all around the country were made to expand Islamic beliefs all throughout the country. After speeches and riots happened in Iran, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini became the supreme leader of Iran. After former U.S. president Jimmy Carter had international talks with both officials from the previous government of Iran and the current, the supporters of Khomeini’s let the hostages free in January 20th, 1981.
