FC: Euclid's Scrapbook
I've always have had an interest in mathematics. Ever since the middle school years my mind has been focused on solving the hardest equations. This picture is of me in middle school attempting to solve a high school level mathematics problem. Learning mathematics at such a young age assisted me greatly in the future.
The day I started learned the basics of a subject that was not quite developed opened up a world of opportunities for me. My thoughts on how the world worked changed drastically. There were actual shapes that existed in the real world, not just on paper. I felt like my life was changed, not because I shaved my beard, but because of this new way of thinking.
Proofs | These two of my many theorems are very important to me and the rest of the world. Before these how could you tell if two triangles were congruent, or what the measure of half the distance of a circle is called. These proofs are important to me because it makes me feel like I cracked a difficult code.
I was searching around my house and found this picture of me in my elementary school days. I had a spectacular beard back then, but aside from that, in elementary school, I thought that the shapes in the world were formed because of the Greek gods. Then I started drawing the shapes on paper and realized they had relations to mathematics.
Of course when I told people about my theory they all laughed and ignored me. I was about sixteen when this happened, so I became very angry, like all teenagers who do not get what they want. Soon after I decided to start making proofs about my idea. I started showing my proofs to people and slowly more and more people believed me. I cracked the code.
As my theory became very well known throughout Greece, I started developing theorems and postulates involving special tools. The one pictured below is a compass. It is used to draw congruent line segments or angles to ones on paper. In the modern world geometry students use it all the time to create different angles, bisectors, and line segments.
Euclid's Elements is a paper containing all of my proofs, theorems, and postulates. This paper makes it easier for people to read and analyze my theories, after all I have tons. I have found it was a very effective way of explaining my ideas. If I did not write Euclid's Elements, my theories would probably not be as well known as they are today.
My name has been used in the modern world many times. Streets to places like amusement parks have been named after me. Euclid Beach, located in Cleveland, Ohio was an amusement park with my name in the title. Unfortunately, it shut down a while back. But Euclid Avenue is still up and running with many people residing on it. I never knew my name was so popular!
