3: THE MOST COMMON MOVIE RATING SYSTEM YOU WILL SEE IN AMERICA WAS CREATED BY THE MPAA; MOTION PICTURE ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA. THEY CREATED G, PG, PG- 13, R, AND NC- 17 RATINGS. TO INFORM PARENTS ABOUT THE TYPE OF CONTENT IN A MOVIE. THROUGHOUT THE BOOK YOU WILL SEE WHAT EACH RATING MEANS AND WHAT'S SAFE FOR YOUR CHILD. | 2

4: G rated movies A G rating means the movie is for General Audiences. All ages are admitted. Some snippets of language may go beyond polite conversation but they are common everyday expressions. No bad words are present in G-rated motion pictures. Depictions of violence are minimal. No nudity, or sex scenes or any other way of showing adult content. | 3

6: PG rated movies A PG rating means parental guidance suggested. Some material may not be appropriate for young children. Mature themes may be present but are not intense. There may be some violence, brief nudity or profanity in the motion picture. There is no drug use in a PG-rated movie. | 5

8: PG- 13 Rated Movies A PG- 13 rating means parents should be strongly cautioned. Some material may not be appropriate for children under the age 13. There may be brief nudity in a PG-13 movie but will not be sexually oriented. There may also be profanity and non extreme violence. | 7

10: R Rated Movies An R rating means a movie is Restricted. Children under the age of 17 need to have a legal guardian or parent accompany them. An R-rated motion picture may include profanity, sex, nudity, or any similar element. It's not appropriate for parents to bring a young child with them to see an R-rated movie. | 9

12: NC- 17 Rated Movies An NC-17 rating means no one under the age of 17 years old may be admitted this type of movie. The rating signals that the content is only appropriate for an adult audience. An NC-17 rating can be based on violence, sex, drug abuse or other similar element. | 11

14: The Motion Picture Association of America The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) members are the 6 major U.S.A. motion picture studios: Walt Disney Studios, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox, Universal Studios, and Warner Brothers. | 13

15: MPAA offices are located in Washington D.C., and Los Angeles. Also they have protection teams in Chicago, Dallas and New York. Former US Senator, Chris Dodd is now Chief Executive Officer of the MPAA. | 14
