FC: 50+ Reasons We Love You

50 Memorable Years To two wonderful parents who through their living and loving taught their children and grandchildren these 50 lessons and so much more. Thank you that during the shuffle and busyness of everyday, you showed us by your example so much about life, family, faith, & love. As you raised your children, you probably often wondered, ”Will what we teach root them in something real that will allow them to grow with a firm and sound foundation?” Your teaching us these beliefs and values have had a profound impact on who we've become and how we view the world. And while words cannot adequately express our gratitude for all you have done for us and taught us, may this scrapbook be a reminder of the tremendous accomplishment that is 50 years of marriage and a loving family. | All Our Love, The Kids

You taught us how to share ... How could you NOT with 8 kids competing for food, toys, & affection!

Each day of our lives we make deposits in the memory banks of our children!

A Mother is...one who can take the place of all others, but whose place no one else can take. We've never had to wonder how you felt about us...we were made to feel loved, made to feel special, made to feel safe. Our Mom was always proud of us! You'll never know how much that means!

Allow children to be happy in their own way, for what better way will they ever find true happiness?

When one of us wandered from home, or when we would veer off-course, you gently guided us back in the right direction.

You always tried to be fair...like spanking Jim and I both when he stirred up trouble, so he didn't feel singled out (wait a second, that wasn't fair).

Don't sweat the small stuff--roll with the punches!

It is the simple things of life that make living worthwhile, the sweet fundamental things such as love and duty, work and rest, and living close to nature... You taught us to be good stewards of the land!

Keep your eye on the prize...this lesson, while figurative, was also sometimes literal in meaning. | You taught us that many of life's best treasures come from nature...

 SPRING | ...and they're free!

Creating a family in this turbulent world is an act of faith, a wager that against all odds there will be a future, that love can last, that the heart can triumph against all adversities and even against the grinding wheel of time. Faith is not a sense, not sight, not reason, but a taking God at His Word!

You taught us that life is not all fun and games... It took a lot of hard work to support our family, take care of the farm, and to maintain love, peace & order in our home! | The Blum Family Farm, where the love of family & a love of the land came together & blended beautifully!

God still draws near us in the ordinary, commonplace, everyday experiences and places.

You taught us that life is too short to hold grudges.

Every person ever created is so special that their presence in the world makes it richer and fuller and more wonderful than it could ever have been without them.

Brothers & Sisters are lifelong friends that God/Parents choose for us! Thanks for the many friends!

You told us to follow our dreams even when that meant no-one would carry on the family farm.

You always made us feel safe... we never felt anything bad could happen when in your care.

You taught us to study hard in school (even helping with homework when we needed) and you always said that by age 18 we needed to find our own wings, leave the nest, and soar towards our dreams! | Eight is Enough!

You taught us that it's ok not to have all the answers, because nobody does (even when as teenagers we were convinced we did).

A Mother is someone who dreams for you, but then she lets you chase the dreams you have for yourself and loves you just the same. In the end, she believes in your dreams as much as you do! Thanks MOM!

Whatever you do, put romance and enthusiasm into the lives of your children!

 You made us believe...

...In the sanctity of marriage, through your commitment to each other "for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health."

You taught us that SUCCESS is to Live Well, Laugh Often, and Love Much...

eD'S 70TH BIRTHDAY PARTY | ...And you are as old as you feel, so THINK YOUNG!

Do unto others as you would have done unto you.

You taught us to hug... And to say "I love you" to the ones we love!

You taught us that giving is better than receiving (but receiving is nice too).

 Life is Full of Surprises!

"Families are like fudge ... mostly sweet with a few nuts." | You taught us that sweets and nuts taste best together...and both are fine in moderation.

 MAKING MEMORIES

You taught us that reading feeds the mind, and like puzzles, is a great way to pass the time!

We are all special and loved by the one who created us! | We learned that patience is a virtue (one that is often tested when raising eight rambunctious kids)!

FAITH FAMILY FRIENDS | You taught us that laughter and tears are both best shared.

You always said you had a blast raising us kids; you inspired us to have kids of our own. | BLUM

Family faces are magic mirrors. Looking at people who belong to us, we see the past, present, and future.

Blum Family Christmas | You taught us that being wealthy is not about the amount of money you have.

Home is where the heart is.

{ | { | Don't worry about what people think of you...just be the best you can be!

Life brings simple pleasures to us every day. It is up to us to make them wonderful memories.

SPRING | happy | And to Honor thy father and mother. (It seemed self-serving at the time but respect for elders is good advice) | You taught us the importance of prayer...

You showed your support in so many ways (like holding the tent so it wouldn't blow away and ruin Darren's graduation party) and you reminded us that nothing could diminish your pride and joy in our accomplishments!

 so many

Blum Farm Sale | To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.!

Live for today, but hold your hands open to tomorrow. Anticipate the future and its changes with joy! There is a seed of God's love in every event, every circumstance, every situation in which you find yourself.

Summer Time! | YOU TAUGHT US SAFETY, INSISTING WE WEAR SEATBELTS LONG BEFORE IT WAS THE LAW (ALTHOUGH THE RIDES IN THE BACK OF THE PICKUP OR HANGING OFF THE TRACTOR WOULD PROBABLY HAVE BEEN FROWNED UPON).

You taught us to have fun, to not take life too seriously, and to be able to laugh at yourself.

 Sweet Dreams

You taught us that early to bed, early to rise, makes us healthy, wealthy & wise.

Most of the beautiful things in life come by twos & threes, by dozens and hundreds. Plenty of roses, stars, sunsets, rainbows, brothers & sisters, aunts & uncles, cousins, and GRAND CHILDREN!

Retirement ....is when you stop living at work and begin working at living. It's also the time in your life when time is no longer money.

Our hearts long for home. That place where, when we get there...

...We wonder why we ever wanted to leave.

Make two homes for thyself - one actual home...

...and another spiritual home, which thou art to carry with thee always.

Edward Martin, son of Aloysius and Hilda (Hoffmann) Blum was born on November 5, 1937. Jolene Mae, daughter of Carl and Irene (Rosman) Wilwerding was born on September 8, 1940. The couple united in marriage on April 30, 1960 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Woodbine, Iowa. To this union, eight children were born: Douglas Edward (2/12/61), Dennis Allen (4/16/62), Steven Paul (5/30/63), Thomas Joseph (5/22/64), James Edward (10/3/65), Jacqueline Ann (3/12/67), Shari Lynne (5/10/70) and Connie Teresa (8/21/71).
