Wow, looks like there are knights in our very midst. | This is a good time to review the knight's code: Live pure, Speak truth, Right wrong, Serve The King!
On Saturday, December 4th Mykenzie and I hosted a special night for moms and daughters. It was a cookie exchange, a pajama party, and a bedtime story all wrapped into one. First we did the cookie exchange. Then we piled plates full of snacks and got warm drinks. Our living room was totally full and it was wonderful. We asked everyone to bring extra pillows and bean bags to get comfy.
Then we settled in for story time. One of Mommy's favorite Christmas books of all time is The Other Wise Man. I love sharing it with others, but my favorite way to do it is to read it to them So that's what we did. I read the story to all the moms and daughters while they sipped and ate. Thanks to Daddy's generosity, at the end of the night we surprised everyone with their own copy of the book to keep.
The night was wonderful and we got asked if we'll share another story next year. Maybe. | What was so amazing is that we almost canceled the evening due to the weather. It snowed and got really cold. However, the roads stayed clear and everyone was safe and the snow made it feel like the perfect night.
Sterling looks pretty and cuddly, too, in Mykenzie's old Christmas dress. I can hardly believe that super tall beautiful young lady once wore that little dress.
We had a fun family night of watching The Santa Clause and stringing popcorn. I think as much popcorn got consumed as strung, but who could resist, it was yummy popcorn.
Winter hats and adorable children make an irresistible combination.
It's Mykenzie's turn to wow us with her Lego creations. | This is an Ultimate Rescue Base from her own imagination.
We got to spend an afternoon out at the Children's Museum. We finally made it up to Tower A from which you can see all the train yards below.
Then the kids stopped to build a river barge and then, from it's boards, a house. Then we explored the old town on our way to see the Christmas trains.
The kids loved seeing all the Christmas trains again. The highlight was, of course, riding the little train for the 3 little ones; Sterling thought it was great!
Holiday Memories Warm Even The Coldest Of Days
After seeing all the Christmas trains we headed upstairs to play in the Children's Museum for a while. We don't get to go their with Daddy that often, so it was a special day.
Time to do laundry in the Steffen home.
Then, Now, and Always the true gift of Christmas is our Lord Jesus Christ who was born to die to save us all from our sins.
It's always a special night when we get to go to the Creation Museum at Christmastime to see the lights, but most of all the live nativity and to hear the Christmas story told again. It was very cold, but totally worth it. Mykenzie and Jacob kept warm by trying some of the Jewish dancing.
May all your Christmas dreams come true | Knights with guns - yikes! | One of our advent sock countdown activities was to make pine cone bird feeders to hang outside.
Yet another "sock" activity was for the kids to paint their own wrapping paper. 'Twas colorful, beautiful, and fun.
Sterling looking very festive and beautiful in her Christmas dress that used to be Mommy's.
Still another creative advent sock activity as we countdown to celebrating Christmas. We couldn't find fresh strawberries to do the vanilla candy, green sugar dip. So we improvised with tree pretzels Mommy found and dipped them in the vanilla candy dyed green and sprinkled them with sugar snow.
Noah's fish are thriving and doing great!
The kids have a gorgeous tree upstairs again this year. | They love decorating it and it makes the most perfect holiday night light.
Mrs. Lee came over so Mommy could show her how we make our bread from scratch. The little ones are never too young to learn these skills, too.
It is so fun that new and exciting and creative and unique Lego creations show up at our house almost weekly.
Snow!!! Isaac loved being a big helper. Sterling loved sledding.
Daddy and Mommy got to attend the church couples dance again. It was a great night, but it was just before Mommy's heel surgery, so she had to wear her tennis shoes.
Our home is such a fun place to be during the holidays or any time. Whether we're making candy cane pretzels for lunch or rice krispie treat wreaths for dessert (both more sock activities). I am so blessed to be the mommy of 5 amazing children who fill our days with so many smiles and so much love.
Uncle Matthew arrived for his visit and the kids were so excited to have him with us. They enjoyed showing him the train under the tree. All of them were able to run it this year, except for Sterling.
There wasn't as much snow this year, but we still did get enough for one good snowman and another small one.
Sterling and Daddy learn about farming. Sisters share a yummy popcorn snack. A rare photo op with Mommy. All is ready for Christmas Eve.
Hugs and cuddles from my baby girl are better than any gift I could find under a tree. Sterling's ready for a great night. Merry Christmas!
We love our Christmas Eve celebrations. We start with Daddy reading the Christmas story from the Bible, then we sing carols (every one gets a turn picking songs), then we open presents. Somewhere along the way we stop for pie and ice cream.
It's about how Jesus came to be born once so that we could be born again. | It's about the cross; it's about my sin
Presents are wonderful blessings as long as we never forget that God gave us the greatest gift of all.
There were so many blessings under the tree that we ran out of time and energy on Christmas Eve before we ran out of gifts. So, we finished the opening on Christmas morning. That was followed by a delicious breakfast with more of Mommy's homemade cinnamon rolls.
It was so wonderful to have Uncle Matthew here for a full week and to take some time off of school to relax and enjoy the holidays. Sterling enjoys reading with Uncle Matthew, the boys show off some of Uncle Matthew's old shirts, and the kids enjoy the new mosaic kit.
Dressing up for church. Isaac would look more handsome if he'd smile; just a crabby morning. Noah is loving his new tie with orange in it!
Mykenzie is going to make an amazing mommy one day! She loves to involve her little siblings in any kitchen task she's doing. And, she can make our bread from scratch - what a blessing when I got sick again after Christmas!
Isaac has developed a love for and a real talent for doing puzzles. This is him working hard to do every kids puzzle with more than 10 pieces that we had in the house.
God richly blessed us in 2010!
