20: Michael J. Scarpa 7/23/1931-4/8/2011 Michael J. Scarpa passed away from complications of Parkinson’s disease on April 8, 2011. Michael was born in Jersey City, NJ. July 23, 1931 to Italian immigrant parents. His father Anthony Scarpa was a contractor, his mother Mary Scarpa was a seamstress and a homemaker. He is survived by his former wife Jane, daughter Marie, son in law Jonathan, son Tony, daughter in law Tracy, grandchildren Giovanna and Michael, niece Maryann and companion Cynthia. He was preceded in death by his sister Louise.

21: Michael was trained as an aerographer in the US Navy. He enlisted at age 17 and served for 4 years during the Korean War. His area of specialty became Meteorology and after his honorable discharge from the Navy, attended NYU to compete his undergraduate studies. After 25 years of service for the US Weather Bureau, Michael reinvented himself as an Environmental Engineer and worked in that capacity until retirement. Michael was an avid NY Yankees fan with a broad and extensive knowledge of the players and team history dating back to the 1940’s. His other interests included finance and the stock market, history, genealogy, and weather. He was a second generation hobbyist winemaker and was fluent in Italian and studied German. A private memorial service will be held in Long Branch, NJ.
