FC: ANITA METCALF 32 years of memories 1978 - 2010 "Looking back"
I started my career with South Central Bell in Birmingham, AL on May 7, 1978 as a directory clerk in publishing. In 1985, I was made permanent and promoted to Relieving Supervisor. I then went on to becoming a trainer in Atlanta on a new system called “CLASS”. There is where I first met Nelson Alcantara. What was supposed to be 6 weeks, turned out to be 16 months and after going back to Birmingham and training the initial “CLASS” sessions, I was asked to come to Atlanta permanently and become a Staff Manager in Publishing. That meant, I trained 5 states and traveled a lot. Later, I was promoted to Systems Administrator in Telephone Sales, although I had no clue about the job. Then I became the Acting Trainer and again traveled a lot. I took on the “Manager-Publishing” position and was responsible for the East Publishing group. The company then decided that I would be the Manager over publishing training. Finally, I landed in the last position of my career, as the Area Manager over Quality/M&P/Policy. And now I get to relax and reminisce
"Through the years we find many friends, causes and loves!"
The pleasure of working with so many people through the years
With laughter the days go by much quicker!
And on the eighth day God said, "Okay, Murphy, you're in charge!"
I used to eat a lot of natural foods until I learned that most people die of natural causes.
"A friend is one who knows you and loves you just the same."
My last day with AT&T was Friday, March 28th. I will be retiring after 32 yrs of a roller coaster of a ride. I have to say, there were far more good days than bad. When I walked into these doors 32 yrs ago, I was a 20 yr old who only wanted a good job so that I could move out of my parents' house. Who knew that I was starting a career, not just “getting a job!” and also be fortunate enough to find Charles! I have been blessed to have worked in several groups with several different managers. Each one came with its challenges but with many blessings too. I’ve made lifelong friendships, had great employees, great support and great bosses. I am looking forward to spending more time with my husband, his sons and especially our grandson Eli. I will also be spending more time with my family in Birmingham and Savannah and moving into our new house! I will miss you greatly, but hope we keep in touch. I wish you the best in your career and life as well! As one door closes, another one opens and I know that in this time of my life, God is sending me through the door that has the greatest need for me. God bless, Anita
