100: Flying a 1/2 a world away, eating gelato, meeting strangers, witnessing the exchange of wedding vows, spending time with friends, living in un-airconditioned hotels, having no shower curtains, swimming in the Mediterranean, sleeping on trains, having sweaty backs, eating too much cheese & pasta, drinking too much wine, reading maps non-stop, learning transportation systems, buying birkenstocks and of course living out a dream with a friend that can never be replaced was the ideal way to spend 20 days of my summer in 2011. It was all a great experience, but immersing myself in the culture of my ancestors taught me a lot. It also opened my eyes to more of the world around me. These are my roots and to be able to see where generations of family got to grow up has truly humbled me. Italians love and embrace the culture and with this journey I have been able to bring home pieces of my heritage that many people never get the chance to do. I can only hope that tossing coins into the Trevi Fountain will solidify my safe return to this country that I am proud to say is in my blood.
