This book focuses on William Guarnere and Jonathon Basilone, my heroes.

William, "Wild Bill" Guarnere was a Paratrooper in WW2. He grew up in S. Philadelphia. He enlisted in 1942 and met Ed Heffron, [Right] another man from Philly.

Jonathon, "Manila John" Basilone was an Italian American from New York. He joined the 7th Marine Corps and fought in the battle of Guadlecanal, killing hundreds of Japanese troops with a machine gun. For this, he won the Navy Cross and the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Wild Bill: After his training, Bill was called into service to jump behind enemy lines and break the Nazi lines. He jumped into France on June 6th, 1944. He met with Lt. Dick Winters, Pvt. Don Malarkey, Lt. Buck Compton, and Sgt. Johnny Martin. They ambushed a German convoy and regrouped with their platoon. Later, they destroyed antiaircraft guns. Bill won the Silver Star.

Manila John: John was sent home to sell war bonds. He requested to go back and fight with his friends. His wish was granted, and he shipped out to Iwo Jima. There he encouraged his men to move up the beach. He rescued an American tank, and then, running up the beach, was killed by shrapnel from a mortar shot.

Wild Bill: After his jump, Bill went with his company into a small French town called Carentan. There, he bravely fought through the village. Then, he fought off a German charge in the outskirts of Carentan. He won a Bronze Star.

After France, Bill's regiment moved into Holland to commence OPERATION MARKET GARDEN. There, Bill was shot off a motorcycle and tore up his leg. Of course, Bill had to go to a hospital. He tried to sneak out by painting his leg black like a boot and saying he was healed. He was caught and demoted to Private. Later, Winters [Now a Captain] made Bill a Staff Sergeant again.

After that, the 101st Airborne Division went to Belgium. A few days later, German forces surrounded them and fired explosives at them rapidly. Bill's friend, Joe Toye, was hit by a shell and his leg was blown off. Bill went to help Joe but was also hit by a shell and fractured his leg. Bill was sent home.

After The War After his death, Sergeant First Class Jonathon Basilone had won the Navy Cross, Purple Heart, and the Congressional Medal of Honor. His brother Sergeant Frank Basilone and his friends honored him as a hero. | After The War After the loss of his right leg, Staff Sergeant William J. Guarnere got married, had five children, and as of May 25th, 2010 is 87 years old. People say that he can go as fast as a running man on crutches. He won 2 Purple Hearts, the Silver Star, and 2 Bronze Stars.

Dear Andrew, It's now been 2 years that I've known you. Two great, fun, exciting years. So I hope you enjoyed your 10th birthday and we have great lives together in the future. Your Friend, Billy

You're 10 years older, I say that bolder. We laugh and joke, And sometimes choke. We giggle off our heads, We will do that on our deathbeds Year after year we've done the same, But of course it'll never get lame. You're Andrew Freas, Who will ever forget?

 You're 10 now so please don't fret. From Billy, May 5th, 2010.
