1: FAMILY FUN | March 3 - 8, 2013 We decided last minute to book a trip to San Diego for Kenny's 40th birthday. The four of us had a wonderful time exploring the city in our rental jeep - we cannot wait to return to discover more San Diego has to offer!
2: SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA is a multi-venue performing arts centre in the Australian city of Sydney. It was conceived and largely built by Danish architect Jrn Utzon, finally opening in 1973 after a long gestation starting with his competition-winning design in 1957.
4: WE WANDER FOR DISTRACTION, BUT WE TRAVEL FOR FULFILLMENT. | HILAIRE BELLOC
8: Sunday, March 3 - San Diego We made it out of Calgary on the morning of March 3 - they had a winter storm warning and we were glad the plane took off! After getting our rental vehicle we toured around San Diego, having our first meal by the pier and picking up our Go San Diego cards for the next day.

18: CORONADO ISLAND There was a very cool bridge we saw that went over to an island and we set off to find it. We ended up in Coronado Island - a beautiful place with great beaches and beautiful homes and shops. We spent some time at the beach before headed back to the hotel to check in.
20: BAHIA RESORT HOTEL | The Bahia Resort Hotel was a great place to stay. The rooms were huge and had a kitchenette in them. They had their own Seal Pond (Billy & Gracie) and a private beach around the back. The breakfast buffet was good and there were public beaches surrounding us. It was also 5 minutes to Sea World.
22: LEGOLAND Carlsbad, California
28: READY, SET.....
50: LEGO ROCKS | FUN!!!
51: Say Cheese! | Say Cheese! | Say Cheese!
52: Monday, March 4 - Legoland! Legoland was a fun filled day. It took over an hour to get into the park but once we were in we had a great time. We loved the rides and checking out the amazing items made entirely of....LEGO! Our favorite part of the day was when we had our family picture drawn as Legoheads - of course! We had a great supper that night at Claim Jumper in Carlsbad. It was so much food - an excellent meal!
55: SEAWORLD San Diego, California
68: THE SHAMU STORY
69: The Shamu Story provides you with an entertaining and educational experience. There was a behind-the-scenes look into various training sessions instructed by the trainers. This show gives you the history of Shamu while providing facts about killer whales all in an entertaining way.
105: Tuesday, March 5 - Sea World & South Harbor Tour We went to Sea World first thing in the morning - it was very different from the last time we went 5 years ago! It was a chilly day and it wasn't crowded at all. We got to see Baby Shamu swimming with his mom! The Shamu show was excellent and the rest of the park and rides were great. We went on the Journey To Atlantis Ride three times! After we left we went back to the pier and enjoyed a Harbor Tour of the south side of San Diego. We were able to see a Navy Seals rescue practice in action! Later that evening we met Jason, Sheila, Evan and Cam for a nice supper at El Agave in the Old Town part of town. It was authentic Mexican food and it was very tasty - especially the margarita's!
107: ADVENTURE | The time to explore is now
125: San Diego Air & Space Museum with Ripley's Believe it or Not!
133: EXPLORE YOUR WORLD
136: In the parking lot there were a lot of stalls for rental electric cars. It was pretty cool to see! The boys tried to 'plug' it into Kaden - but she was already fully charged!
137: IT'S THE LITTLE MOMENTS THAT MAKE LIFE BIG
138: USS MIDWAY MUSEUM TOUR
161: Wednesday, March 6 - San Diego Zoo, San Diego Air & Space Museum, Ripley's Believe it or Not, USS Midway Museum, North Harbor Tour & Site Seeing We had a jam packed day in San Diego and it was a great time! The zoo was excellent - so nicely laid out and so many animals. Next was lunch at the San Diego Hall of Champions before we toured the Air & Space Museum and went through the Ripley's exhibit. After that we toured the USS Midway Museum (an old ship now on display - it was unbelievable!) and then a tour of the north harbor, where we finally saw sea lions and dolphins. When we were finished we walked around the pier and hit some shops before having supper at Hunters Steakhouse. We were worn out from all of the walking we did during the day and slept like logs that night.
163: Thursday, March 7 & Friday, March 8 On Thursday we spent the day shopping on the Mexican border at an outlet mall - Las Americas. It was huge and had a ton of stores in it. We so badly wanted to cross the border into Mexico but were told it wasn't safe to do so with a rental vehicle. We were so close to Mexico we could have spit from the vehicle and said we were there! That evening we went to Jason and Sheila's for supper and drinks. They were wonderful hosts! On Friday morning the kids and Kenny went for a swim while I packed up all of our purchases. Then we were off to drop off the rental Jeep and on our way home. It was nice to get back but we all truly enjoyed our trip to San Diego. We all agreed we would definitely be back - very soon!
